The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that section B of the JEE Main 2025 question papers will no longer include optional questions. This applies to both Engineering (BE/BTech, Paper 1) and Architecture & Planning (BArch/BPlanning, Paper 2).
The official website for JEE Main 2025 is jeemain.nta.ac.in, with registration details to be announced soon.
Optional questions were introduced in 2021 due to challenges caused by COVID-19. Previous JEE Main papers had 90 questions – 20 from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in section A, and 10 in section B, where candidates chose 5 from each subject.
Starting from 2025, JEE Mains will revert to the older pattern, with 25 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. There will be no options in section B, and candidates must attempt all 5 questions per subject.
The NTA stated that with the WHO declaring the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency in May 2023, the optional question format is being discontinued. JEE Main 2025 will include 5 mandatory section B questions per subject for both Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech), Paper 2 A (B.Arch), and Paper 2 B (B.Planning).
JEE Main 2025 will be conducted twice for admissions into undergraduate engineering, architecture, and planning courses at IIITs, NITs, and other technical institutions. It also acts as the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced.
Candidates should regularly check the NTA website for the latest updates.
