The National Testing Agency (NTA) has removed optional questions in Section B of NEET UG 2025. The exam will now follow the pre-COVID format with 180 compulsory questions: 45 each in Physics and Chemistry, and 90 in Biology, to be solved in 180 minutes. Extra time introduced during the pandemic has also been discontinued.
The optional section was a temporary measure during COVID and remained in place until NEET UG 2024. NTA confirmed the updated pattern in a statement, emphasizing that Section B has been removed, returning NEET UG to its original format.
The NTA statement issued in this regard said: "All NEET (UG)-2025 candidates are informed that the question paper pattern and exam duration will revert to the pre-COVID format, where there will no longer be any Section B.
Therefore, there will be a total of 180 compulsory questions (45-45 questions in Physics and Chemistry and 90 questions in Biology) to be solved by the candidates in 180 minutes, thereby removing any optional questions and additional time introduced due to COVID.
The NTA which is going to start NEET UG application soon, has also confirmed today that APAAR ID is not mandatory for registration. Candidates can continue to register for NEET UG using other available means, details of which will be available in the information bulletin soon.
This year NEET UG will be conducted in pen and paper mode in a single shift. NEET UG 2025 exam date and application details are yet to be announced.-
