NTA New NEET Exam Rules: Coaching-Linked Teachers Barred From Setting Question Papers
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced several changes to strengthen the security and transparency of NEET UG and other major national-level examinations. One of those steps taken by the NTA is the establishment of a panel consisting of more than 5,000 subject matter experts.
This panel will consist of academicians, scientists, researchers, teachers and translators from all over the nation. They will perform various functions in connection with the conduct of these examinations.
These experts will serve for a period of three years. NTA will continue to induct new experts every year, as per their needs.
NTA Exam Reforms: Key Changes
NTA has introduced several measures related to the preparation and security of question papers. The major changes are given below:
| Reform | Details |
| New expert panel | More than 5,000 academicians, scientists, researchers, teachers and translators included |
| Panel tenure | 3 years; new experts may be added throughout the year |
| Action against old panel | Around 600 experts were removed earlier as part of security measures |
| Background verification | A strict four-stage verification process has been introduced |
| Main objective | Strengthen exam security and reduce the risk of question paper leaks |
NTA 4-Layer Verification Process for Experts
As stated by the authorities of NTA, every expert joining the panel will have to undergo various steps of verification. There is no expert that joins the panel without undergoing the process of verification.
Step 1: Basic Verification
Basic details, eligibility, education and professional experience of the applicant is verified by the NTA.
Step 2: Verification of Documents
Verification of relevant academic and official documents is done by the authority for the applicant.
Step 3: Academic Verification
Subject matter committee of the organization verifies the educational background and previous research and experience of preparing question papers of the applicant.
Step 4: Verification of Coaching Link
NTA also verifies whether the applicant has links to any commercial coaching center or has prepared commercial question bank papers in the past.
Coaching-Linked Teachers Barred From Setting NEET Question Papers
As per the new format, teachers connected to any coaching institute in a commercial way or teachers who are part of the coaching industry will not be considered for making the question paper for NEET UG and other entrance examinations.
The experts nominated for the committee will have to sign a comprehensive Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). This agreement needs to be renewed before each new assignment of the examination.
This is being done to maintain the confidentiality of question paper preparation.
Which Exams Does NTA Conduct?
NTA conducts several major national-level entrance and eligibility examinations, including:
- JEE Main
- NEET UG
- CUET UG
- CUET PG
- UGC-NET
- CSIR-NET
According to the information provided, NEET UG is conducted in pen-and-paper mode, while the other listed examinations are conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode.
NTA Building a Large Question Bank
Question bank is another major initiative that is underway by NTA with regard to securing the examination.
The question bank is supposed to have a vast number of questions. It will help in ensuring that it is not possible for any experts or translators to have knowledge about the questions which will actually appear in the exam.
In the proposed method, the selection of questions would take place just before the exam and also the final question paper would be created just before the exam takes place. It is aimed at reducing the probability of the leak of question papers before the exam.
The expert panel, multi-stage verification, confidentiality and question bank are all part of the efforts taken by NTA for securing NEET UG and other examinations.
