NEET UG 2025 Exam Update: NTA Drops Covid-Era Optional Section – Revised Pattern Details

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced major changes to the NEET UG 2025 exam pattern. The exam will now follow the pre-COVID format, removing optional questions and additional time introduced during the pandemic. Candidates will have to attempt all questions within the standard duration of 180 minutes (3 hours).
Key Changes to the Exam Pattern
The NEET UG 2025 question paper will include 180 compulsory questions:
- Physics: 45 questions
- Chemistry: 45 questions
- Biology: 90 questions
NTA stated: “The question paper pattern and duration will revert to the pre-COVID format. Section B, optional questions, and extra time introduced earlier will no longer be available.”
APAAR ID Not Mandatory
NTA has clarified that an APAAR ID is not required for registration. Aspirants can register using alternative methods, details of which will be shared in the upcoming information bulletin.
