The Supreme Court has refused to give relief to two students affected by power cuts in the NEET UG 2025 exam for now. This case is of the examination centers of Madhya Pradesh, where students had trouble giving the exam due to power outage.

Navya Nayak and S Sai Priya of Madhya Pradesh had filed a petition in the Supreme Court. They challenged the decision of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on July 14, 2025, refusing to conduct the examination again. The petitioners say that they faced power cuts during the examination, which affected their performance.

The Supreme Court bench, consisting of Justice PS Narasimha and Justice AS Chandurkar, did not allow the students to participate in the counseling process of NEET UG 2025 for the time being. However, the court has fixed July 25 for further hearing on their petition.

The counsel for the students argued that the counseling process has started, and the petitioners should be allowed to participate temporarily. But Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who appeared for the National Testing Agency (NTA), said such a demand would impact lakhs of students.

NTA and High Court's stand

A single bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court had earlier ordered re-examination at some examination centers in Indore and Ujjain.

But the division bench of the High Court repealed this decision on the appeal of NTA.

According to the report of the expert panel, although there was a power outage, natural light was present at the centers, due to which the examination was not affected.

 What next?

Now the next hearing on this matter will be held in the Supreme Court on 25 July 2025. Only then it will be decided whether any further relief will be given to these students or not.
