NEET UG Counselling 2023 : NMC Announces August 30 as Final Date for MBBS Admissions

In anticipation of the NEET UG Counselling 2023, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has introduced new regulations that will impact the admissions process for MBBS courses. Under the Graduate Medical Education Regulations (GMER) 2023, the NMC's Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) has mandated a deadline for admissions. According to these regulations, no admissions will be permitted after August 30, 2023.

Additionally, the NMC has issued directives to universities and colleges, instructing them to commence the MBBS academic calendar on August 1 of each year.

It is important to note that as per the GMER 2023, any student admitted after the August 30 closure date will have their admission cancelled.

These new regulations aim to bring the academic calendar back on track, particularly after the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Both the apex medical education regulator of the country and the government are actively working towards this goal.

Implications for NEET UG Counselling

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the NEET UG Result on June 13, 2023. Based on previous trends, the NEET Counselling Process typically commences in the first week of July.

However, considering the new guidelines, which set the deadline for admissions as August 30, 2023, it is expected that the counselling process will start in the last week of June or the first week of July.

During the NEET UG Counselling process, candidates will be required to apply through the official website of the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). The schedule for both UG and PG Counselling is anticipated to be released soon.
