On Tuesday, the Delhi High Court refused to entertain a plea seeking the holding of the NEET UG exam twice a year, like the Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) for engineering courses.
A bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela said the decision on whether to hold the exams twice a year or not is an administrative domain in which the courts cannot interfere.
"It is for the authorities to consider the prayer. It is a policy decision of the government," it said. The high court disposed of the plea while allowing the petitioner, who is a teacher at a coaching center, the liberty to approach the authorities concerned.
The court said if any application or representation is made to the authorities, they must consider it and take an appropriate decision in accordance with the law.
The petitioner said the JEE (Mains) exam was held in multiple shifts and students were given multiple chances to reduce psychological pressure and motivate them to improve their grades.
However, those appearing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) (UG) were given only one chance. The petition said that they should also get more than one chance. The bench said that there are many other competitive exams in which candidates do not get multiple chances.
