THE World University Rankings 2027: IISc Highest-Ranked Indian Institute at 254; Check List
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has secured the top position among Indian universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, achieving a global rank of 254.
The latest edition of THE World University Rankings has evaluated 2,297 universities across 118 countries and territories. According to THE, this is the largest edition of the rankings so far.
India has emerged as the most represented country in Asia for the second consecutive year, with 143 universities featured in the rankings. This is 15 more than the previous year. Turkey follows India with 124 ranked universities, also adding 15 institutions this year.
IISc Performance in THE World University Rankings 2027
The overall score for IISc in 2027 was 57.0. Out of all the indicators considered in the ranking, IISc ranked high in the category of research environment, getting a score of 98.0. IISc received a score of 62.1 in the area of teaching and 58.6 in research quality.
Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences is the second-highest ranking institute in India after IISc. Its ranking lies within the range of 326-350 with an overall score of 52.3-53.3.

Shoolini University has been ranked in the 451-500 bracket, whereas Jamia Millia Islamia and KIIT University have been ranked in the 501-550 bracket.
The above-mentioned universities form part of the total 143 Indian universities that have been included in the ranking. THE has ranked over 1,000 universities in Asia, which was an increase from 929 universities last year to 1,003 this year.
Asian Universities Gain Strong Presence in THE Rankings 2027
THE World University Rankings 2027 showcase the increasing number of top ranking Asian universities in the world.
Asian universities are now ranked higher than the continental European universities in terms of their representation in the top league. The Tsinghua University of China jumped up in rankings and became the 11th best university in the world, overtaking ETH Zurich of Switzerland.
The Tsinghua University now ranks as the highest ranking university of Asia, while Peking University was ranked as the 13th best university of the world.
The National University of Singapore has now made into the global top 15, becoming the third university of Asia to do so.
Asia now boasts of 40 universities in the global top 200, compared to five more than last year. The Malaysia also got its first entry into the top 200.

- Seoul National University (South Korea): 56th rank

Globally, the University of Oxford retained the first position for the 11th consecutive year. The top positions in the rankings are:
