Thousands of students eagerly waiting for the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) 2025 result have got a big shock. Earlier it was expected that this result would be declared on June 5, 2025, but it has been delayed due to legal issues.

Why the Results Are Delayed

WBJEEB Chairperson Sonali Chakraborty Banerjee clarified that the board was all set to release the result on June 5, but the result had to be postponed due to legal proceedings related to the OBC reservation policy. The matter is sub judice in the court, so the board is avoiding any unilateral decision.

Board Chairperson's Statement

Banerjee said that according to a 2014 government notification, the state government has the right to take a decision on any issue related to the examination and issue instructions to the board. The WBJEE board is bound to follow this directive. Therefore, only the state government has the power to take a decision on issues like OBC reservation.

“WBJEEB has no authority over the OBC issue. We were ready to publish the results on June 5, but the matter went to court.”

Growing concerns of examinees

The exam was conducted on 27 April 2025 and almost three months have passed so far, but no official result date has been announced yet. Students say that due to this uncertainty they are facing mental stress and anxiety.

A group of students has written a letter to the board demanding that the result be declared as soon as possible so that they can start the further admission process.

Education Minister's stand

State Education Minister Bratya Basu had earlier said that the government is ready to release the result, but it is taking full caution in view of the legal proceedings related to OBC reservation.
