CBSE Class 12 Result 2026: Why CBSE Switched From Manual to Digital Marking System

With the CBSE Class 10 board exam results declared earlier than usual on April 15, all eyes are now on the Class 12 results. The Board is yet to announce a date and time for the Class 12 results, but here's what you need to know about this year's exam, marking process, and results.

Why CBSE Class 12 Results Are Delayed This Year

Over the past few years, CBSE has been declaring the Class 10 and 12 results together in the second week of May. Last year, for example, the results came out on May 13, the same date as in 2024.

This year, though, the Board was working on a tight schedule for Class 10 because a second set of exams is being offered to students in May to help them improve their performance. To accommodate the second exam and make sure the final Class 10 results are out on time, the Class 10 results were declared nearly a month earlier than usual, while the Class 12 results were pushed to later.

What Is CBSE's New On-Screen Marking System?

This year, the Board has introduced an 'on-screen marking' system for Class 12. This means answer sheets are now being evaluated digitally instead of on paper.

All Class 11 and 12 teachers are being deployed for the evaluation, and they were given login credentials in advance to access the online portal. Teachers also got a chance to try out mock evaluations to get used to the new system, along with a mass mock evaluation held in February.

Key Benefits of CBSE's Digital Marking System

When the Board announced the on-screen marking system for Class 12, it said the benefits include fewer totalling errors, less manual intervention, and faster evaluation. The system also allows teachers from all affiliated schools to take part in the process and helps the Board save on transportation time and costs.

Special Assessment Scheme for Students in West Asian Countries

Class 12 exams scheduled for March in West Asian countries — Iran, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE — were cancelled after the US and Israel attacked Iran in February. Students in these countries were able to appear for papers till the end of February, but all papers scheduled after that date were cancelled.

For these students, whose results will be declared along with the rest, the Board has announced a separate assessment scheme. Their final results are being calculated based on previous exams, like pre-boards and half-yearly papers.

For instance, in subjects where the maximum theory marks are 80 or 70, the Board will consider the student's performance in the quarterly exam, the half-yearly exam, and the final pre-board exam, and pick the best of the three scores for the final result. Schools were given an online platform to upload these marks.
