CBSE Class 12 Results 2026: Gender gap shrinks by 39% — but girls still finish on top
For the past ten years, girls have scored higher than boys in the CBSE Class 12 exams. The gap between the two groups has grown smaller — but never disappeared.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is expected to announce the Class 12 Results 2026 in the third week of May 2026. And if the past ten years are any indication, girls are likely to emerge on top once more.
The Numbers Tell the Story

| 2025 | 91.64% | 85.70% | 5.94 |
In 2015, girls scored a 87.56% pass percentage, while boys scored 77.77%. That’s a difference of nearly 10 percentage points.
By 2025, girls scored a 91.64%. Boys improved, too — by quite a bit. But boys still lagged 5.94% percentage points behind girls.
In ten years, boys have improved their pass percentage by more than 10 percentage points. That’s almost twice as fast as the rate of improvement seen among girls. But despite the faster catchup, boys have finished behind girls every single year.
The Gap Is Shrinking — Just Not Gone
Over the past ten years, the difference between boys’ and girls’ CBSE Class 12 results has decreased by 39%. This is significant progress. According to the numbers, boys are getting closer and closer each year.
From 2019 to 2020, there was the biggest decrease ( from 9.30 points to 5.96 points in just a year). This significant drop was primarily due to higher overall pass rates during the years COVID-10 pandemic, when board exams were conducted differently.
After regular exam cycles resumed in 2023, the gap remained stable at around 6 points.
So yes. Boys are closing the distance. But no. They haven’t caught up just yet.
What This Means for CBSE Class 12 Results 2026
It’s a pattern. Boys are steady. Girls are steady. There are no dramatic ups and downs. And chances of the gender gap are high that it won’t narrow down to nil suddenly.
