CBSE Gets New Chairperson: Senior IAS Officer Mandeep K Bhandari Appointed

Senior IAS officer Mandeep K Bhandari has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Bhandari is a 2001 batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre.

He will take charge of the CBSE chairperson post after the Centre approved his appointment. The order was issued by the Ministry of Personnel following a bureaucratic reshuffle.

Bhandari is currently serving as Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. Before this appointment, he has held several administrative positions in different departments.

The appointment of Mandeep K Bhandari brings a new leadership change at CBSE, which manages school education boards, examinations, and academic policies for affiliated schools across India.

Mandeep K Bhandari Replaces Lokhande Prashant Sitaram

Mandeep K Bhandari will replace Lokhande Prashant Sitaram, who was holding the additional charge of CBSE chairperson.

Sitaram was given the additional responsibility after the Centre transferred former CBSE chairperson Rahul Singh on June 2. The move came during the controversy related to the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.

Later, Sitaram was appointed as Additional Secretary in the Union Home Ministry while continuing to hold the additional charge of CBSE chairperson for some time.

Other IAS Appointments Announced

Along with Mandeep K Bhandari’s appointment, the Centre announced several other bureaucratic changes.

Ankita Mishra Bundela, a 2001 batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, has been appointed as Additional Secretary in the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education. She was earlier serving as Additional Secretary in the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

Other senior officials were also assigned new responsibilities across different ministries and departments.
