Both the shifts of GATE 2025 February 16 exam are over now. The first shift of CY, AE, DA, ES and PI subject papers ended at 12:30 pm. The analysis of GATE 2025 DA and AI paper is now available. The second shift-1, shift-2 conducted the exam for EC, GE, XH, BM and EY papers.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national level entrance examination conducted to offer admission to Masters in Technology (MTech) and direct PhD in IITs, NITs, IISc, IIITs and other institutes/universities across India.

GATE 2025 Branch-wise Paper Analysis

Here, the candidates will get the branch-wise detailed analysis of the GATE 2025 Exam held on February 16, 2025, in both shifts. The paper review of Civil Engineering (CE), Chemical Engineering (CH), Physics (PH), Biotechnology (BT), Statistics (ST), Engineering Sciences (XE), Life Sciences (XL), Mining Engineering (MN) is based on student reactions and expert insights will help the candidates to understand the difficulty level of the papers.

GATE 2025 Civil Engineering (CE) Analysis

The GATE Civil Engineering paper contains three General Aptitudes, Engineering Mathematics and Civil Engineering. The GATE Civil Engineering paper has 65 questions with a total of 100 marks. The total allotted time for the exam is 3 hours. 

Based on initial feedback, the overall difficulty level of the exam conducted in both shifts was moderate to difficult

  • Strength of Materials, Environmental Engineering, and Transportation Engineering had higher weightage.

  • Questions required a deep conceptual understanding, with fewer direct formula-based questions.

  • Some tricky questions were present in Geotechnical Engineering and Structural Analysis.

GATE 2025 Chemical Engineering (CH) Analysis

The GATE Chemical Engineering paper contains three General Aptitudes, Engineering Mathematics and Chemical Engineering. The GATE Chemical Engineering paper has 65 questions with a total of 100 marks. The total allotted time for the exam is 3 hours. 

As per the initial feedback, the overall difficulty level of the paper was moderate

  • More emphasis on Thermodynamics, Reaction Engineering, and Process Control.
  • Heat Transfer had some challenging numerical problems.
  • A mix of theoretical and numerical questions ensured balanced coverage of the syllabus.

GATE 2025 Physics (PH) Analysis

The GATE Physics paper contains two General Aptitudes and Core Physics. The GATE Physics paper has 65 questions with a total of 100 marks. The total allotted time for the exam is 3 hours. 
As per the initial response, the overall exam was relatively easier as compared to the previous year.
  • Mathematical Physics and Quantum Mechanics were heavily tested.
  • Some numerical questions were lengthy and required in-depth calculations.
  • Experimental physics questions were straightforward but required conceptual clarity.
  • A few assertion-reason and multiple select questions (MSQs) were tricky.

The GATE Biotechnology paper contains three General Aptitudes, Engineering Mathematics and Biotechnology. The GATE Biotechnology paper has 65 questions with a total of 100 marks. The total allotted time for the exam is 3 hours. 

As per the initial feedback, the overall difficulty level of the paper was moderate

  • Genetics and Cell Biology carried significant weightage.
  • Bioprocess Engineering and Recombinant DNA Technology had tricky numerical problems.
  • MSQs require precise conceptual understanding.

GATE 2025 Biotechnology (BT) Section-wise Analysis

GATE 2025 Statistics (ST) Analysis

The GATE Statistics paper contains two General Aptitudes and Core Statistics. The GATE Statistics paper has 65 questions with a total of 100 marks. The total allotted time for the exam is 3 hours. 
Based on initial responses, the overall difficulty level of the exam was nearly the same as the previous year.
  • Probability and Regression Analysis were the dominant sections.
  • Some unexpected yet solvable questions were found in Multivariate Distributions.
  • Data Interpretation questions were slightly time-consuming but manageable.

As per the initial feedback, the overall difficulty level of the paper was moderate

  • The Mathematics section was relatively straightforward.
  • Fluid Mechanics and Solid Mechanics had moderate difficulty.
  • Some conceptual and tricky questions were asked in Materials Science.
