The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has extended the registration deadline for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 without any late fee.
Candidates can now apply through the official portal gate2026.iitg.ac.in until October 6, 2025. However, the last date for applying with a late fee is October 9, 2025.

GATE 2026: Exam Dates
IIT Guwahati will conduct the GATE 2026 exam this time. The exam is scheduled for February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026. The results will be released on March 19, 2026.
GATE 2026: Eligibility Criteria
Only candidates who have a bachelor's degree in engineering, technology, science, architecture, commerce, arts, or humanities from a recognized institution are eligible to apply.
Students in the third year or higher of these degrees are also eligible to apply. The applicant's degree must be recognized by the Ministry of Education (MoE), AICTE, UGC, or UPSC.
GATE 2026: Application Fees
The GATE 2026 application fee varies depending on the candidate's category and the application deadline.
Regular Application Period (until October 6):
- For SC, ST, PwD, and female candidates: ₹1,000 per paper
- For all other categories: ₹2,000 per paper
Late Fee Period (until October 9):
- For SC, ST, PwD, and female candidates: ₹1,500 per paper
- For all other categories: ₹2,500 per paper
GATE 2026: Application Process
The application process is completely online. Candidates can follow the following steps:
- Visit the official website gate2026.iitg.ac.in.
- Register, fill in your personal details, and upload the required documents.
- Pay the application fee online according to your category.
- After completing the application, download the confirmation page and save it for future reference.
GATE 2026: Exam Pattern and New Changes
This time, there will be a total of 30 subjects (papers) in GATE 2026.
- A new section, Energy Science (XE-I), has been added to the Engineering Sciences (XE) paper.
- Candidates can choose a maximum of two papers, but must choose from the combination list.
- The exam papers will be in English language only and will be entirely objective type (MCQ, MSQ, NAT).
