Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has postponed the GATE 2026 registration process. Now candidates will be able to apply for the exam from 28 August 2025 on the official website gate2026.iitg.ac.in. Earlier this process was to start from 25 August.

As per the revised schedule of GATE 2026, candidates can apply for the exam till September 28 without late fee. By paying the late fee, they can apply till October 9.

GATE 2026: New Important Dates

28 August 2025: Registration begins
28 September 2025: Registration ends without late fee
9 October 2025: Last date for registration with late fee
7, 8, 14 and 15 February 2026: Exam dates
19 March 2026: Results will be released

GATE 2026: Eligibility Criteria

Candidates should be currently pursuing or have completed graduation in an undergraduate degree program (third year or higher) from a recognized institution.
Qualifications must be recognized by the Ministry of Education, AICTE, UGC or UPSC.
Students of Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts and Humanities can apply.
Candidates pursuing degrees abroad are also eligible.

GATE 2026: Application Fee

The GATE 2026 application fee is ₹1,000 per paper during the regular period and ₹1,500 per paper during the extended period for Female/SC/ST/PWD candidates.

The application fee for all other candidates is ₹2,000 per test paper during the regular period and ₹2,500 per test paper during the extended period.

GATE is a national level exam which is very important for higher education and PSU jobs in engineering, technology, science and other fields. GATE score is also valid in IITs, NITs, IIITs and many international universities.
