GATE 2026 will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati this time. The exam will be held in February 2026.

Through this national level exam, candidates are selected for admission to postgraduate courses in subjects like engineering, science, arts, commerce and humanities and for PSU jobs. The official website of the exam gate2026.iitg.ac.in is now live.

The online application process for GATE 2026 will start from August 25, 2025. Candidates can apply till September 25, 2025 without late fee.

If a candidate is unable to apply by the last date, he can apply till October 6, 2025 with late fee. The exam will be held on 7, 8, 14 and 15 February 2026 and the results will be declared on March 19, 2026.

Who Can Apply for GATE 2026

The candidate must have certain required qualifications to apply for this exam. Students who are pursuing the third year or above of any undergraduate degree program can apply.

Apart from this, students pursuing or studying degrees in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts or humanities are also eligible.

Students holding degrees from outside India can also apply for GATE 2026, provided their degrees are recognized by AICTE, UGC or UPSC.

GATE 2026 Application Fee

Talking about the application fee, the regular application fee for female, SC, ST and Divyang candidates is ₹1000 per paper, while for all other candidates it is ₹2000 per paper. In case of late fee, candidates of the above category will have to pay ₹1500 and others ₹2500 per paper.

GATE is an important exam as its score is used not only for admission to postgraduate programs, but many government companies (PSUs) also select candidates for jobs based on GATE scores.

Apart from this, stipend is also given for higher education based on GATE score. Students pursuing M.Tech get ₹12,400 per month, while direct PhD gets a stipend of ₹37,000 for the first two years and ₹42,000 per month for the next three years.
