Though the results are still far away, the 2024 session of JEE Advanced, organized by the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras, has left students biting their nails in anticipation of judging their performance and whether they will end up in their dream colleges through a provisional answer key.
Mostly, students find their way into the colleges, keeping in view their ranking, extra-curricular activities, and opportunities for placements. The search for a good college with your subject matter depends a lot on the performance of an institute.
Following are a few of the IIT rankings, placements, and salaries that will help you in deciding if the college of your choice a desirable and worth it.
IIT Madras
IIT Madras has emerged as number one in the country in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Engineering 2024, which falls under the engineering category. The average package at IIT Madras increased from an average package of 29.28 lakh in 2018-19 to 41.72 lakh per annum in 2021-22.
Conclusion of session 1 had 25 offers with pay packages over Rs 1 crore per annum. There has been the highest-ever pay package of Rs 2.14 crore per annum by IIT Madras to UG students in the current placement session. The Madras-based institute reported that above 80% of its BTech and dual degree students, and over 75% of its master-level students sitting for placements had job offers.
The companies where students have had placement included Glean, Micron Technologies, Honda R&D, Cohesity, Da Vinci Derivatives, Accenture Japan, Hilabs Inc, Quantbox Research, MediaTek, Money Forward, Rubrik, Termgrid, and Uber.
IIT Guwahati
IIT Guwahati has secured the seventh position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Engineering 2024 rankings. The latest batch (2022-23) from IIT Guwahati had an average annual salary of Rs 41 lakh. This marks a significant increase from Rs 28 lakh in 2018-19.
The number of students registered for BTech CSE at IIT Guwahati has risen from 84 to 108 over the past five years. In the academic year 2022-23, 108 students registered, with 104 students (96.30%) successfully placed.
In the QS World University Rankings 2024, IIT Guwahati has achieved a global rank of 32 for 'Research Citations per Faculty' and an overall rank of 364.
IIT Delhi
IIT Delhi secured the second position in the engineering category of NIRF 2023, being among the 23 IITs established as Centers of Excellence for science, engineering, and technology training, research, and development. In the management category, it ranked fifth, and in innovation, it secured fourth place.
As per the IIT Delhi summer internship placements report 2023, the highest stipend offered was Rs 4.04 lakh per month, with an average stipend of Rs 2.63 lakh per month.
The major domains for internships included sales and marketing, IT, and analytics, with top recruiters like Google, Accenture, Capgemini, Flipkart, and ICICI Bank participating.
IIT Bombay
IIT Bombay has achieved the 45th rank in Engineering and Technology in the 2024 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject, with an improved overall score of 79.1 out of 100 compared to its 2023 performance, moving up two places.
Its specific subject rankings include 25th for Minerals and Mining, 30th for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, 42nd for Civil and Structural Engineering, 57th for Mechanical, Aeronautical, and Manufacturing Engineering, 63rd for Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and 64th for Chemical Engineering.
During the December placement drive, IIT Bombay saw 22 students receiving offers of Rs one crore or more, with three in India and 19 internationally. In the first phase of placements in 2022, the institute received over 1500 offers from more than 400 organizations.
The average salary for IIT Bombay students has shown consistent growth in recent years, rising from approximately Rs 11.41 lakh per annum in 2017 to around Rs 18.5 lakh per annum in 2018 and then to about Rs 10.34 lakh per annum in 2019.
IIT Kanpur
Ranked sixth in the research category, IIT Kanpur continues to be a top choice for students. The institute offers various e-master degree programs and short-term courses in humanities and science disciplines. In 2023, it achieved a milestone with 122 Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) filed and a remarkable licensing rate of around 14% to industry partners.
During the first phase of the 2023-24 placement session, IIT Kanpur received a total of 989 offers, including 22 international offers. The current average salary is Rs 26.27 lakh per annum.
Out of these offers, 913 students, including those with Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs), secured placements. Noteworthy industry giants like Microsoft, Fujitsu, Samsung, Reliance, Goldman Sachs, McKinsey, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, Deutsche Bank, Tata Projects, Navi, Uniorbit, ICICI Bank, EXL, NPCI, Intel, TSMC, Bajaj Auto, Tata Steel, HPCL, SECI, C-DOT, NVIDIA, and more participated in the first phase of placements at IIT Kanpur.
IIT Roorkee
IIT Roorkee secured fifth place in the engineering category and seventh in research for NIRF 2023. In 2023, students from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee, received three international offers and 358 domestic offers.
Some of the main companies that hired students from IIT Roorkee included Accenture Japan, Acuvon Consulting Private, American Express, Auronova Consulting, Axis Bank, Barclays, Clear, Demsyt, Edgeverve Systems, Groww, Headout, Hilti Technology Solutions India, ICICI Lombard, Infoedge, Inito, Meesho, Nation with Namo, Palo Alto Network, Samsung R&D Institute, Delhi Schlumberger, Sedemac, Skiify Solutions, Standard Chartered, SuperAGI, Tata AiG, Wells Fargo, and more.
IIT Kharagpur
Ranked fifth in India and 59th in Asia according to the QS Asia World University Ranking 2024, IIT Kharagpur is a prestigious institution in the country. In NIRF 2023, it secured the 5th spot in the research category and the 6th spot in the engineering category.
IIT Kharagpur's placements attracted top recruiting companies such as Apple, Airbus, CapitalOne, EXL Services, Google, Microsoft, Square Point, Rubrik, IBM, Puma, Capgemini, Deloitte, EY, ICICI Bank, Cognizant, Aditya Birla Group, Lenovo, and others.
Recently, the institute announced reforms in its UG programs starting from the academic year 2024-25, aligning with the National Educational Policy (NEP 2020). Starting from 2024-25, admission to all UG programs will be for a five-year duration at the BTech and BS levels only. Students will have the option to pursue five-year dual degree programs after their second or third year of study.
