NEET Paper Leak 2026: SC Says NTA Failed to Learn, Next Hearing May 29
The Supreme Court on Monday slammed the National Testing Agency (NTA) over the NEET UG 2026 paper leak. The bench remarked it's "sad that NTA hasn't learnt its lessons" from the previous paper leak scandal. The court has sought responses from the Centre, NTA, and CBI on petitions demanding NTA's replacement with a more secure and independent body. The matter will be heard next on May 29.
Justices PS Narasimha and Alok Aradhe directed NTA to file an affidavit by Thursday on its compliance with the court's 2024 directions. The bench noted that a monitoring committee had made recommendations earlier, and it wants to know what steps NTA actually took.
The petitions were filed by FAIMA and United Doctors Front (UDF). Both organisations want NTA to be dismantled or restructured after the alleged paper leak.
What Do the Petitioners Want?
The petitioners have demanded a "technologically advanced and autonomous body" to replace NTA. They've also sought a high-powered committee with a retired SC judge, a cybersecurity expert, and a forensic scientist to oversee the re-exam.
Other key demands include digital locking of question papers, a shift to Computer-Based Testing, and strict implementation of the K Radhakrishnan Committee's recommendations. They've also asked CBI to submit a detailed status report on the leak investigation.
NEET UG 2026 was held earlier this month. Paper leak allegations from multiple centres triggered protests and eventually led to the exam's cancellation. The re-exam is scheduled for June 21.
