NEET UG 2026 Biometric Issue: NTA Issues Important Clarification for Candidates

NEET UG 2026 Biometric Issue: NTA Issues Important Clarification for Candidates

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is all set to conduct the NEET UG 2026 exam on May 3, and preparations are in full swing across the country. This year too, over 24 lakh candidates are expected to appear for the undergraduate medical entrance exam. The admit cards have already been released, and the NTA has asked candidates to follow the exam day guidelines carefully.

One of the key steps at the exam centre is the multi-layered verification process. It includes frisking, checking of admit cards and valid photo ID, and biometric authentication before entry into the exam hall. Biometric verification is a must. It's designed to ensure transparency and stop impersonation during the exam.

But in some cases, candidates may face problems during biometric verification due to technical glitches or other limitations. To address this concern, the NTA has issued a clear advisory on what candidates should do if their biometric details fail to capture on exam day.

What NTA Has Clarified

According to the official notice:

"If the biometric verification of a candidate cannot be completed due to technical or physical issues, the candidate will still be permitted to enter the examination room after submitting a written undertaking."

This means no candidate will be turned away just because of a biometric failure. The exam goes on as planned.

Reasons Biometric Verification May Fail

Biometric verification can fail for many reasons. The NTA has listed the most common ones:

Reason Description
Device Malfunction Technical fault in the biometric machine
Poor Biometric Data Fingerprints not clear enough to capture
UIDAI Connectivity Issues Server or network problems with Aadhaar systems
Physical Inability Candidate unable to provide biometric data due to a medical or physical condition

If any of these issues come up, the candidate will still be allowed to enter the exam room. They'll just need to submit a written undertaking. The format will be provided at the exam centre itself, so there's no need to bring anything extra.

No Disturbance During Exam Hours

The NTA has also made it clear that once candidates enter the exam hall, they won't be disturbed for biometric processes during exam hours. The exam will run from 2 pm to 5 pm. For PwD candidates, the timing extends up to 6 pm.

This means you can fully focus on your paper without worrying about any biometric checks during the exam.

What Candidates Should Do

If you face a biometric issue at the centre, don't panic. Here's what you should keep in mind:

  • Stay calm and don't argue with the staff
  • Listen carefully to the instructions from centre officials
  • Submit the written undertaking as guided
  • Carry all required documents — admit card, valid photo ID, and self-declaration form
  • Reach the centre well before the reporting time so any issue can be sorted out smoothly
