XAT 2027 Exam Pattern Changes Explained

Most important changes are associated with penalties for non-attempts at Part 1 questions. Initially, students could not be penalized for up to eight unanswered questions. However, the new regulation extends the number of such questions to 12.

In case a student skips 12 or more questions, there will be a deduction of 0.10 marks for each additional unanswered question. Hence, the regulation increases flexibility of candidates' choice regarding questions they answer.

For example, a student who skips 15 questions will have a deduction of 0.30 marks under the new system because only three questions were left unanswered in excess of the allowed amount. In case of the old system, the candidate would have a deduction of 0.70 marks for the same situation.

It should be noted that the above-mentioned change does not mean that students do not care about their results and skip the most difficult questions. The new regulation does not make any changes to the fact that candidates should take into account their chances of earning marks.
