CBSE Announces Alternative Assessment Scheme for Class 12th Students in West Asia: How Results Will Be Calculated | Full Details
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has formally launched a specialized assessment program for Class 12 students enrolled in schools across West Asian nations—specifically the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and Iran.
Due to prevailing regional circumstances—which led to the cancellation of board examinations originally scheduled between March 1 and April 10, 2026—this precautionary measure has been implemented to mitigate significant academic disruptions.
To ensure the timely declaration of results and academic continuity, the Board has adopted a hybrid assessment methodology, recognizing that the traditional examination cycle is no longer a viable option for these students.
Students who had already completed specific question papers prior to the disruptions will receive their results under this new methodology based on their actual performance in those examinations. For the cancelled subjects, the CBSE will utilize aggregate marks derived from school-level assessments, placing particular emphasis on the "best three" average obtained from quarterly and pre-board examinations.
The marks for internal and practical assessments, which were submitted by schools at the beginning of the academic year, will remain unchanged. To ensure that results for students in West Asian nations are released concurrently with those in India, the CBSE has established a strict deadline for schools to upload internal assessment data, thereby maintaining global parity.
The Board's unwavering commitment to student welfare and equity is clearly reflected in this localized policy, which serves as a safety net for students unable to complete their final examinations while simultaneously upholding the integrity and fairness of the 2026 certification process.
Key Features of the Assessment Scheme
The assessment process has been categorized into two distinct groups: students who had completed their examinations prior to the cancellation, and those who had not.
For Examinations Already Conducted: For subjects where examinations have already been concluded, the results will be determined solely based on the students' actual performance in the written board examinations held between February 17 and February 28, 2026.
The results of the "best three" school-based examinations (quarterly, half-yearly, and pre-board exams) will be utilized for the evaluation of cancelled examinations (subjects that were not conducted): Theory (70/80 marks).
Theory (30/50/60 marks): Performance in the final pre-board examination will serve as the sole basis for evaluation.
Practicals/Internal Assessment: There will be no changes to these marks, as schools have already uploaded the scores for these year-long activities.
CBSE Results 2026 Update: Important Dates for Schools
Schools in the West Asia region must adhere to the following timeline for uploading Theory marks based on their internal records:

Students who have changed centers: Students who have relocated to other countries—such as India—will be evaluated based on their performance in the examinations taken at their new location.
Supplementary Examinations: If, due to their personal circumstances, students were unable to appear for even a single examination, they may be granted the opportunity to take a supplementary examination in July 2026.
