CBSE Re-evaluation Result 2026: Students Say Correct Answers Still Marked Wrong

CBSE Re-evaluation Result 2026: Students Say Correct Answers Still Marked Wrong

The CBSE continues to try and get over this tough exam season, but it seems like this task is not fully complete yet.

As it turns out, Vedant Shrivastava from class 12, who became the center of the controversy regarding the CBSE re-evaluation, has still not received his re-evaluation results. The reason for such delay is in the fact that despite the claim of CBSE that most results were already released, there are still many students who did not receive theirs yet.

"Many students, including me, have not received our CBSE re-evaluation results, even though the board announced that most results have been released," he posted on social media.

This young man had become the main face of the issue of the wrong re-evaluation process of the CBSE some time ago. He had applied for the recheck of his Physics board paper, but the script he received had been that of another student. CBSE had later apologized for the mistake and admitted the fact of the confusion, but when Vedant posted about his story on social media, more than a hundred students complained about wrong marks, ungraded answers, and confusion of scripts.

CBSE then returned him his script, but another problem arose after this. As it turned out, Vedant's correct answer script had some red ink markings on it, which means that his paper was manually graded by the examiners. This is quite strange since CBSE now prefers digital evaluation of papers, such as OSM.

In conclusion, as long as the case of Vedant Shrivastava remains unresolved, doubts about the transparency of the re-evaluation process will also remain.

Last week, the CBSE tried to clear up the situation. It stated that the results for about 87 per cent of the students who requested the re-evaluation had already been released. Nevertheless, this clarification could not help much the people who still wait for their results or are dissatisfied with the re-evaluated ones.

Not just Delayed Timelines: Discrepancies that Survived the Recheck

The problem, it turns out, has two sides. One is the backlog. The other, and arguably the more worrying one, is that several students who got their re-evaluation results say their issues haven't gone away. The Indianexpress.com spoke to several students who claim their scores still don't add up, even after re-evaluation.

'Correct Answers, But No Marks'

For Harshit Gupta, a student of commerce from Gurgaon, the problem was never about the numbers. It was about the trend that he kept noticing; that is, correct answers being marked as zero regardless of the official evaluation process.

Physical Education was what upset him the most. As Harshit claims, he had never scored such poorly on the subject in all of his school days despite finding it relatively easier this time. Having got his answer sheets evaluated, he highlighted certain instances when his answer to MCQs agreed with the official marking scheme but still did not get him any marks.

Heeding the advice from their teachers, he opted for rechecking. Yet, the outcome did not convince him in the least. Though he agrees that some deductions in Accountancy could be justified as value judgments, he thinks that the larger problem lies in the handling of subjective answers of Physical Education. A total of 73 per cent in his score card was disappointing considering his previous performance at schools.

Marks Changed, and Didn't, and CBSE Never said Where or why

Unlike the previous case, the issue Praveen Yadav raised is about the lack of information regarding the errors detected in his answer sheets. He does not mind the fact that there were errors in his work, but he thinks that the board should have communicated these errors.

Praveen is studying in the Science stream. He belongs to a family settled in West Bengal and his father works in defence services. Originally, he thought that he would get 75 per cent, but actually, he got only 68.79 per cent. That is why he requested reevaluation of his Biology and Mathematics papers. Thereupon, his Mathematics paper gained him nine more marks, which made the student think that his complaint was reasonable.

However, CBSE did not provide him with information on which particular questions were examined in the rechecking process and how many marks he gained due to the corrections. As for the Biology paper, there was no change at all with no explanation provided by CBSE.

It was extremely difficult for the student to cope with such a situation since Praveen was preparing for JEE, NEET and compartment Chemistry.

Re-evaluation Moved the Needle, but not Enough

However, Sarthak Gupta of PCM stream from Jammu felt that the results of re-evaluation only partly admitted some mistakes, but did not reflect the true extent of the problems, which he thinks have been made during the evaluation of his performance.

Sarthak scored more than 97 per cent in Class 10 examination. Therefore, his Class 12 marks really shocked him: 65/100 in Physics and 54/100 in Chemistry; moreover, his Chemistry theory scores were only one mark higher than the passing line. After analyzing photocopies of answer sheets, he found some mistakes and several answers, which received no marks despite being right, including three- and five-mark questions.

The discrepancies in marks could sum up to more than 100 extra marks.

Nevertheless, re-evaluation helped him get additional marks – four marks for Physics, two for Chemistry, and two marks for Informatics Practices. As a result, his total percentage reached 85.6 per cent and now it is enough for admission to any educational institution.

At the same time, for Sarthak these changes mean almost nothing because he found out that there had been mistakes during the evaluation, but this procedure was not sufficient to find them all. In particular, the two subjects, which he considers to be undervalued, remained under-valued in his opinion.
