GATE 2024 Registration to Begin on August 24; Learn Data Science, AI Courses, Topics Covered

Starting from August 24, the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore (IISc Bengaluru) will initiate the registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2024). This year's GATE exam, encompassing a total of 30 subjects, will feature both full papers and sectional papers, including the newly introduced Data Science and Artificial Intelligence paper.

According to the previously disclosed GATE 2023 timetable, the last date for submitting the GATE application form is September 29. An extended submission window has been provided until October 13. The GATE 2024 examination dates are scheduled for February 3, 4, 10, and 11. The examination aims to facilitate admissions into various master's programs and enable recruitment by certain public sector companies.

IISc Bangalore has introduced a fresh paper combination option: Computer Science and Information Technology, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. As per the guidelines, candidates can appear for a maximum of two papers. However, for the second paper, candidates are restricted to selecting from predetermined two-paper combinations outlined by the institute.

In relation to the GATE 2024 Data Science and AI syllabus, the institute has furnished a detailed syllabus. The syllabus encompasses various domains:

  1. Probability and Statistics: Encompassing topics such as counting (permutations and combinations), probability axioms, sample space, events, independent and mutually exclusive events, marginal, conditional, and joint probability, Bayes' Theorem, conditional expectation and variance, mean, median, mode, standard deviation, and correlation.

  2. Linear Algebra: Covering subjects like vector spaces, subspaces, linear dependence and independence of vectors, matrices, projection matrix, orthogonal matrix, and idempotent matrix.

  3. Programming, Data Structures, and Algorithms: Including Python programming, basic data structures like stacks, queues, linked lists, trees, hash tables; search algorithms like linear and binary search, and fundamental sorting algorithms.

  4. Database Management and Warehousing: Incorporating topics such as the ER-model, relational model, relational algebra, tuple calculus, SQL, integrity constraints, normal form, file organization, indexing, data types, data transformation like normalization, discretization, sampling, compression, and data warehouse modeling.

  5. Machine Learning: Addressing both supervised learning (regression and classification problems, algorithms like linear regression, logistic regression, decision trees, neural networks, etc.) and unsupervised learning (clustering algorithms, dimensionality reduction, principal component analysis).

  6. Artificial Intelligence: Encompassing areas like search algorithms, logic (propositional and predicate), reasoning under uncertainty topics, and more.

With these comprehensive changes, the GATE 2024 exam continues to evolve, reflecting the dynamic landscape of technological advancements and academic rigor.
