When Will the GATE 2024 Result Be Declared?
Mark your calendars! The GATE 2024 result is set to be officially declared on March 16. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) will publish the results on the official website.
What Is GATE and Why Is It Important?
GATE is an examination conducted for admission to postgraduate engineering programs and for recruitment by Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) use GATE scores to admit students to their MTech programs.
How Are GATE Scores Normalized?
Since GATE 2024 was conducted in multiple sessions, the scores need to be normalized to account for variations in the difficulty level of different question sets. Here’s how it works:
-
Raw Marks: Initially, the raw marks obtained by candidates are evaluated based on their answers.
-
Normalization Formula: The normalized marks of a candidate in a specific session (denoted as Mij) are calculated using the following formula:
-
Mij = (Mgt - Mgq) / (Mti - Miq) * (Mij - Miq) + Mgq
- Mij: Actual marks obtained by the candidate in the ith session
- Mgt: Average marks of the top 0.1% candidates across all sessions
- Mgq: Sum of mean and standard deviation marks of all candidates in the paper
- Mti: Average marks of the top 0.1% candidates in the session
- Miq: Sum of mean marks and standard deviation marks of the session
-
-
Data Science and Artificial Intelligence: This year, GATE 2024 included an additional paper on data science and artificial intelligence. The exam was conducted within India only, unlike the previous year when international centers were available.
