GATE 2024 Update: Important Changes and New Exam Centre Rules For GATE Exam - Full Details Inside

The GATE 2024 examination will now be exclusively held at examination centres within India, as the international centres have been withdrawn by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. This year's GATE exam will cover 30 papers, while the exam pattern remains unchanged.

IISc Bangalore has scheduled the GATE 2024 exam on February 3, 4, 10, and 11, and the registration process is expected to commence from August 24. All the essential details such as important dates, exam schedule, eligibility criteria, syllabus, and application fee can be found on the official website, gate2024.iisc.ac.in.

GATE 2024 Exam Cities

According to the official website, GATE 2024 will be conducted exclusively at examination centres within India, and it will not take place in centres outside the country. However, foreign nationals and Indian citizens residing abroad can still appear for GATE 2024 by paying the full application fee of Rs. 1800 per test paper. But they must select examination cities within India and make their own arrangements for travel and accommodation to attend the exam at an assigned centre in the country.

To facilitate the selection process, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has provided a zone-wise list of exam cities. Candidates are required to choose three cities from the same zone while registering for the exam.

GATE 2024 Application Fee

This year, IISc Bangalore has distributed the GATE 2024 registration fee into two candidate categories – fees for female reserved category candidates and that for all other candidates. The institute has also increased the application fee.

Category Fees Fees during extended period
Female (SC, ST, PwD) Rs 900 Rs 1,400
All other candidates Rs 1,800 Rs. 2,300

GATE 2024 Papers And Syllabus

GATE 2024 will be conducted for 30 papers this year. IISc Bangalore has added one new paper on data science and artificial intelligence. Last year, the exam was held for 29 papers only.

GATE 2024 Eligibility Criteria

According to the GATE 2024 eligibility criteria, candidates who are currently enrolled in the 3rd year or beyond of any undergraduate degree program or have successfully completed a government-approved degree program in Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture, or Humanities are eligible to participate in GATE 2024. It's important to note that the eligibility criteria for this year no longer include the commerce subject, which was part of the criteria in the previous year but has been excluded for GATE 2024.
