GATE Score Now Mandatory for DU MTech Admissions for First Time– Complete Details

The Delhi University has made an announcement stating that GATE scores will be accepted for admission to their M.Tech program in Microwave & Communication Engineering. This has become the first case where Delhi University has opted for GATE scores for filling up seats for a graduate program.

A notice has been published by the university following the approval of the course by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Hanit Gandhi, Dean of the Admissions Department at Delhi University, stated, "We have previously utilized GATE scores for PhD admissions, but this is the first time we are using them for a postgraduate course. We will accord first priority to candidates holding valid GATE scores.

Should any seats remain vacant thereafter, we will utilize CUET-PG scores in the subsequent stage

Gandhi further clarified that this course is not a new offering. However, due to the AICTE's approval, GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) scores are being accepted starting this year.

Who Can Apply?

Candidates must possess a B.Tech, B.E., or B.Sc. (Engineering) degree in one of the following disciplines: Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC), Electrical Engineering (EE), Instrumentation Engineering (IN), or Radio Physics and Electronics Engineering. Delhi University has also clarified that applicants holding a

B.Tech, B.E., M.Sc., or an equivalent degree in a relevant subject from a recognized university are eligible to apply.

Seat Distribution

A total of 30 seats are available in this program. The distribution is as follows: 13 seats are unreserved; 8 seats are reserved for OBC candidates; 4 seats for Scheduled Castes (SC); 2 seats for Scheduled Tribes (ST); and 3 seats for students belonging to the EWS category.

What is the Admission Process?

Students who have qualified in the CUET-PG examination are eligible to apply; however, candidates holding valid GATE scores will be accorded first priority. The notification explicitly states that candidates with valid GATE scores will be ranked based on their merit within their respective categories. If any seats remain vacant after this round, they will be filled on the basis of merit, based on CUET (PG) 2026-27 scores.

Delhi University has also confirmed that a separate admission portal will be launched for this M.Tech program. The admission process will not be conducted through the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS-PG) portal.
