The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has begun its online counseling process for admission to undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and PhD programs in agriculture and allied sciences for the academic session 2025-26 on Tuesday, October 14th.

Candidates wishing to enroll in these prestigious programs can now begin their registration and uploading of required documents.

Important Counseling Dates and Procedure

ICAR counseling will be conducted in a total of four rounds. Additionally, there will be an additional mop-up and final round to ensure that no seats remain vacant.

Candidates are advised to visit ICAR's official website, icar.org.in, to view the detailed counseling schedule and register. Further details will also be available on the official websites of the respective agricultural universities.

The registration process began on October 14th at 2 p.m. Candidates can register for counseling from now on, fill in their choices, pay the counseling fee, and upload the required documents. The last date for filling in choices and uploading documents is October 17th at 11:50 pm.

Seat Allocation Notice

Seat allocation notice for the first round of counseling will be displayed on October 21st. Subsequently, seat allocation notice for the second round will be displayed on October 27th. Candidates must check the portal on these dates to receive their allotted seats.

Reason for Delay and Background

It is important to note that the ICAR counseling process is already delayed by more than two months. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the eligibility test for admission, declared the CUET UG results on July 4th. Initially, the Council had announced the commencement of online choice filling for UG Counseling 2025 from October 6, but this process was dependent on the completion of bank payment gateway integration, which led to a delay.

Seat Details and Coverage

Twenty percent of All India Quota (AIQ) seats in 63 state agricultural universities will be filled through ICAR counseling. Additionally, 100 percent of seats in central agricultural universities, including RLBCAU Jhansi, RPCAU Samastipur, NDRI Karnal, and IARI campuses in Jharkhand and Assam, will also be filled by ICAR.

This quota also extends to four central universities: BHU (15%), AMU (5%), Visva-Bharati (15%), and Nagaland University (20%). For the current admission cycle, a total of 6,002 AIQ seats are listed. Of these, the B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture program has the highest number of seats (3,121) and Sericulture has the lowest number (22).

Compared to last year, the number of seats is slightly higher this year. Last year, ICAR opened its counseling registration on August 7th, ten days after the CUET UG 2024 results were declared, to fill 5,842 AIQ seats. Candidates should register and upload their documents well in advance to avoid missing this important opportunity.
