IIT Kanpur Launches Online PG Programs; Check Eligibility, and How to Get Admission

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) has announced the launch of its new online postgraduate programmes, MTech, MSc and Postgraduate Diploma (PG Diploma), aimed at expanding access to advanced technical and analytical education for professionals and graduates across the country.

The engineering institute offers online programs in various fields, including M.Tech in Wireless Networks and Machine Learning, M.Sc in RF Engineering, Microelectronics and VLSI, M.Sc in Economics and Data Analytics, and PG Diplomas in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Cyber ​​Security, and Renewable Energy Technologies.

According to an official statement, these programs are designed to prepare students to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving world and make meaningful contributions to national and global progress.

What Programs Are Available?

IIT Kanpur offers three types of online degrees. Let's break down what you can choose from.

Online M.Tech Programs: The M.Tech (Master of Technology) programs focus on specialized areas. You can study Wireless Networks and Machine Learning, RF Engineering, or Microelectronics and VLSI. These programs take two to four years to complete, depending on how quickly you progress through the coursework.

Online M.Sc Program : There's one M.Sc program available: Economics and Data Analytics. This program is perfect if you want to combine economic theory with practical data skills. Like the M.Tech programs, it typically takes two to four years.

Online Postgraduate Diplomas : If you want something shorter and more focused, consider a PG diploma. Your options include Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Cyber Security, and Renewable Energy Technologies. These programs take just one to two years to finish.

Who Can Apply?

  • Meet Minimum Eligibility: Secure ≥55% marks or 5.5 CPI in the qualifying degree.

  • Select Application Route:

    • Route A (Test Score): Apply with a valid score from GATE, JAM, CEED, CAT, GRE, or GMAT.

    • Route B (Entrance Test): Appear for the IIT Kanpur online entrance test.

  • Check Exemptions: Determine if you are exempt from the entrance test (e.g., ≥5 years professional experience, sponsored by Government/Defence).

  • Fulfill Departmental Conditions: Prepare for any additional conditions set by the department (e.g., academic background, work experience, interview).

In some cases, departments might also ask for an extra test or an interview as part of the selection process.
