The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 exam starting January 21, 2026. The admit card was released on 17 January 2026, ahead of the scheduled examination dates. Every student and parent must understand the exam rules and guidelines to avoid problems on exam day.

Unfair Means Case (UFM) in JEE Main 2026

Strict monitoring is in place to curb unfair practices in the JEE Main. NTA penalizes all found violating exam integrity and rules.

Candidates must follow all exam rules strictly. According to JEE Main rules (Chapter 5, Section 5.5), you need to verify your identity and behave properly during the exam. Breaking any rule may lead to disqualification.

Unfair Means Practices in JEE Main 2026: Things You Must Avoid

If you are appearing for JEE Main 2026, you must adhere to all the rules and regulations. Violation of any of these rules will be considered as using unfair means and may lead to serious consequences. Here is a list of things that are not allowed:

  1. Carrying Prohibited Items : Don’t bring any items like extra stationery, gadgets, food, jewelry, or anything that could be used to cheat.

  2. Impersonation : Don’t try to use someone else to take the exam for you or use cheating materials.

  3. Breaking Exam Rules : Make sure to follow all the rules set by NTA for JEE (Main) 2026. Breaking them could cause trouble.

  4. Helping Others Cheat : You can’t talk to or help other students cheat during the exam.

  5. Talking to Staff for No Reason : Don’t try to talk to exam staff unless it’s necessary.

  6. Threatening Anyone : Threatening exam officials or other candidates is not allowed.

  7. Using Cheating Methods : Don’t try any new methods to cheat, including using unauthorized materials.

  8. Changing Your Documents : It’s not okay to change documents like your JEE Admit Card or scorecards.

  9. Forceful Entry/Exit : After the exam hall entry is closed, you won’t be allowed inside. Once you’re seated, you can’t leave without permission.

  10. Causing Problems : Don’t do anything that causes problems or affects how the exam is run.

  11. Distractions or Not Focusing : Stay focused on your exam and don’t make distractions.

  12. Having Unnecessary Paper : Don’t bring chits, tissues, or any extra paper that’s not allowed.

  13. Other Unfair Practices : Anything else that the NTA finds unfair will also be considered cheating.

  14. Multiple Applications : Don’t submit more than one application or have more than one scorecard.

Common Mistakes to Avoid on Exam Day

  1. Arriving Late: Always reach the center before the gate closing time
  2. Forgetting Documents: Double-check your admit card and ID proof before leaving
  3. Carrying Prohibited Items: Leave your phone and electronic devices at home
  4. Photo Mismatch: If you fail to upload the attested certificate by the deadline, your application may be flagged as "Incomplete" or "Unfair Means (UFM)," which could lead to the withholding of your admit card.
  5. Wrong Exam Center: Verify your exam center address on the admit card
  6. Not Following Instructions: Listen carefully to invigilator guidelines

What Happens if You Break the Rules?

If you're caught breaking any rule, here's what will happen:

Banned from Future Exams You won't be allowed to appear for the exam for the next three years.

Legal Action NTA will take legal action against you if you're caught cheating.

Result Cancellation Your result will be cancelled if:

  • You cheat or break the rules
  • You take the exam at the wrong center
  • You let someone else appear on your behalf
  • You appear in multiple sessions

No Appeals NTA won't accept any appeals or requests to change their decision.
