NCERT Syllabus For Academic Session 2022-23 Could Be Reduced

The Pandemic situations have already forced the boards to reduce the syllabus time and again. In the past two academic sessions (2020-21 & 2021-22), the Syllabus was reduced by 30% for classes 9 to 12. For the upcoming academic session, it is likely that NCERT Syllabus and textbooks will be cut down, for all classes.

Regarding this, the NCERT Director-in-Charge Sridhar Srivastava has directed the various heads of the department to examine and submit the report by December 28.

NCERT is revising the syllabus constantly to bring it in line with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. They are currently working on the textbooks which will contain the changes for publication for the academic session 2022-23. The textbooks based on NCF will be introduced in the academic session 2023-24

Request For Changes

Recently, students have requested the NCERT to include Northeast history in their curriculum. The parliamentary panel has also urged NCERT to remove “Un-historical facts and distortions” about national heroes instead add stories of lesser-known freedom fighters in the school's textbooks. Side-by-side, the council was given specific instructions or guidelines for preparing the history textbooks and their content, they have directed to give equal weightage to all periods of the past.
