NEET 2026 Paper Leak Impact: Tamil Nadu Students Shift to Engineering Path - Check Full Details

As there is confusion about conducting the NEET examination this year amid allegations of malpractice resulting in its cancellation, students have started registering for engineering courses. As far as TNEA is concerned, registrations for engineering admissions in Tamil Nadu have crossed 250,000.

It should be mentioned here that the TNEA is conducted by Anna University and includes the process of completely online single window counseling for admissions to engineering and technology courses at the undergraduate level through B.E/B.Tech without an entrance exam but considering the marks scored in Class 12.

According to the DOTE, online application process has been opened since May 3. Talking to ANI, a senior DOTE official on Friday said, "Within 26 days, we have crossed 250,000 applicants for the TNEA 2023 and the figure is expected to reach 300,000. The postponement of counseling in the case of medical courses because of malpractices in the NEET exam is responsible for this. Many medical aspirants are turning to engineering admissions."

As per the information given by the official, the postponement of medical admissions would have no impact on engineering admissions in Tamil Nadu. According to him, the last date of registration for TNEA would be June 2. Random numbers would be released by June 5, while the merit list is scheduled to come out on June 29. Counseling sessions for engineers would be rescheduled after taking permission from AICTE.

It may be mentioned that there are around 250,000 seats in engineering colleges of Tamil Nadu under Anna University.
