The National Testing Agency (NTA) has changed the tie-breaking process for this year's National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024. The computer-based lottery, which was applied in previous years, is now out, and in its place, the NTA has a formula that is based on the performance of candidates in different subjects.
In the new policy, if such a case arises where two or more candidates score the same marks or the same percentile score in NEET UG 2024, then their mutual merit is decided by considering the following multi-stage process: the marks obtained by candidates in Biology (Botany and Zoology), the marks obtained in Chemistry; after that, the marks in Physics. The second step will take the ratio of right/wrong responses to all the subjects offered for the test and up to the concerned subjects like Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
Multi-step Tie-breaker For Neet Ug
As per the directions shared from NTA, if two or more candidates score equal marks/percentile ranks in NEET (UG) 2024, then the subsequent inter-se-merit shall be announced under the isolated events of:
a. Higher marks/percentile score in Biology (Botany and Zoology) followed by
b. Higher marks/percentile score in Chemistry followed by
c. Higher marks/percentile score in Physics followed by
d. Less proportion of attempted wrong and correct questions in all subjects followed by
e. Less proportion of attempted wrong and correct questions in Biology (Botany and Zoology) followed by
f. Proportion of attempted wrong and correct questions in Chemistry: Low
g. Proportion of attempted wrong and correct questions in Physics: Low
Impact On Rankings And Exam Strategy
This shift does not only modify the course of the candidates' rankings, but it also ushers in a new strategic element into their preparation. Beyond angling for high aggregate scores, a candidate must also be sure to achieve competency in the individual subjects to be relatively firmly placed in a tie-breaker scenario.
