NEET UG Exam Mode: NEET CBT Postponed Until Nilekani Task Force Report; Check Full Details

NEET UG will not be switching to computer-based testing (CBT) yet. The Centre informed the Supreme Court on August 4 that it has not made any conclusive decision about holding NEET UG examinations in CBT mode starting from 2027.

According to the Centre, the move from the current pen and paper mode to CBT will depend on the suggestions from a high-powered committee led by Nandan Nilekani, founder of Infosys. This information was shared by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in its affidavit before the hearing on NEET UG paper leak and exam reforms petitions.

What the Centre told the Supreme Court

The Supreme Court had expressed its concerns about the credibility of the entrance examination. In response, the Centre clarified that the proposal for conducting the examination via CBT is currently being considered by all concerned parties. The decision involves a choice between conducting the examination in one go or in two rounds as in JEE Mains and Advanced.

From the statement, it became quite clear that the final decision will be taken after the Nilekani committee comes up with its suggestions. There has been no decision on the timeline for implementing the changes.

The affidavit was filed prior to the hearing scheduled for 6th August of FAIMA and United Doctors Front, amongst others.
