NTA Invites Experts for Question Setting, Review and Translation: Apply Till October 9

Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) have been requested by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to apply for empanelment as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). These SMEs will help the agency to prepare and improve questions for national level examinations.

The candidates eligible for applying can apply for the process of empanelment via the website of NTA, which is nta.ac.in. The deadline to fill in the EOI form is October 9, 2026.

Candidates who are currently working or retired faculty members, professors, school teachers, etc. can apply for this process.

NTA Subject Matter Expert Roles and Responsibilities

Selected experts will be involved in different stages of the examination process, including:

• Question paper creation and item writing
• Review and verification of questions
• Moderation of test papers
• Translation and transadaptation of questions

Experts will be responsible for creating syllabus-based and application-oriented questions. They will also check questions for accuracy, clarity, and appropriate difficulty levels.

The experts will help ensure that the questions meet the required academic standards before being included in national-level examinations.

Experts to Review Exam Question Translations

Apart from question preparation and review, NTA has also included translation-related responsibilities in the empanelment process.

Subject experts will review translated questions to ensure they are:

• Linguistically accurate
• Technically correct
• Culturally suitable for different regions

This process aims to maintain the quality and consistency of question papers available in multiple Indian languages.

NTA conducts several major examinations, including NEET UG, JEE Main, CUET and UGC-NET, in different languages across the country.
