QS Asia University Rankings 2026 Released - India's Top IITs Slip, Check Complete List

In this year's QS Asia Rankings 2026, Indian institutes have largely seen a decline in their performance. The major IITs (first-generation and second-generation) have slipped from their top 50 positions.
In the 2026 edition of the QS World University Rankings, IIT Delhi has once again achieved the top spot in India but has slipped 15 ranks.
The Delhi-based engineering college has dropped to 59th global rank this year, which is a significant downgrade from its earlier positions that ranged from 44 to 47.
The second rank in India has been achieved by Bengaluru's Indian Institute of Science (IISc), which secured a rank of 64 this year.

Major Ranking Changes for Top IITs
IISc Bengaluru is followed by IIT Madras, which featured at the 70th rank this year with an overall score of 75.1.
The fourth-best institute in the country, IIT Bombay, has seen the steepest fall in ranking, dropping by 23 positions this year. This Mumbai-based engineering college is ranked 71 in the 2026 edition, down from 48 in 2025.
IIT Bombay used to be the top-ranked Indian institution between 2021 and 2024, with its rank ranging from 37 in 2021 to 42 in 2022, and 40 in the two years after that.
IIT Bombay is followed by IIT Kanpur and IIT Kharagpur at the 77th rank, and Delhi University at the 95th rank.
