CBSE 12 Results 2026: Education Ministry Reduces Revaluation Fees, Promotes On-Screen Marking

CBSE 12 Results 2026: Education Ministry Reduces Revaluation Fees, Promotes On-Screen Marking

The Ministry of Education has sought to address concerns raised regarding the new On-Screen Marking (OSM) system introduced for the CBSE Class 12 examinations, describing it as "completely secure" and in alignment with international standards.

Officials stated that the objective of this initiative is to ensure transparent evaluation, while simultaneously drastically reducing the fees for re-evaluation and answer sheet verification—bringing the cost down to ₹100 per request.

Addressing a press conference, Sanjay Kumar, Secretary of School Education, elaborated on the scale of the process and the security protocols implemented. He stated, "Of the scanned sheets, 9.8 million belonged to Class 12.

A three-tier security protocol was adhered to throughout this process. Despite repeated scanning attempts, some illegibility was observed in certain answer sheets due to the extremely faint color of the ink used. Even after scanning, it was not possible to render those copies fully legible."

CBSE Class 12 Results 2026: Scope of Re-verification

  • Under the OSM system, a total of 9.86 million answer sheets were scanned.
  • Due to poor scan quality, 68,018 answer sheets were rescanned.
  • Following persistent quality-related issues, 13,583 answer sheets were evaluated manually, and the marks were uploaded separately.

During the implementation of the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for the CBSE Class 12 examinations, the Board reported that over 80,000 answer sheets required rectification. Out of the 9.86 million scanned answer sheets, approximately 68,018 had to be rescanned due to poor image quality, while 13,583 answer sheets underwent manual evaluation owing to persistent technical glitches. In these instances, evaluators flagged the discrepancies, and the marks awarded through manual verification were uploaded separately, thereby ensuring that the students' results remained unaffected despite the technical irregularities.

CBSE Class 12 Results 2026: Relief in Re-evaluation Process

This clarification comes amidst apprehensions among students and parents who are attributing the decline in the pass percentage to the OSM system—a method utilized for the first time in the CBSE board examinations. To alleviate these concerns, the CBSE has reduced the fees for post-result services.

  • Fee for viewing answer sheets: ₹100 (previously ₹700).
  • Verification fee: ₹100 (previously ₹500).
  • Fee for re-checking each specific question: ₹25.
  • The fee will be refunded if the marks increase following the re-evaluation.

“The CBSE has decided this time that if students wish to view their answer sheets, they may do so by paying a fee of ₹100 instead of ₹700. If they wish to have their answer sheets verified or confirmed, the fee for that, too, will be ₹100 instead of ₹500. If they wish to have a specific answer re-checked, the fee will be ₹25 per question,” stated Kumar.

He further gave an assurance, “We have decided that if a student's marks increase during the re-evaluation process, the amount paid for the re-evaluation will be refunded to the student.” The Ministry reiterated that the OSM system is not only secure but also aligns with global standards for examination evaluation.
