CBSE Revises Scheme of Studies for Class 10 Board Exams 2028: What Changed?
CBSE has issued new Scheme of Studies for students appearing in CBSE Class 10 examinations in 2028. CBSE has stated that these subjects include 'Individuals in Society,' 'Modules on Computational Thinking (CT) & AI' and 'Environmental Education.' These three subjects are not to be included in the curriculum of the concerned batches.
This has been done because these students are studying in Class IX in 2026-27 and will join Class X in 2027-28. It has been done to make clear the subjects which are to be studied and to be assessed through the board examinations.
CBSE Class 10 Board Exams 2028: What Has Changed?
Under the revised scheme, students will have five compulsory board examination subjects:
- Two languages
- Mathematics
- Science
- Social Science
However, students will continue to study a total of nine compulsory curricular areas. These also include a third language, Art Education, Physical Education and Well-being, and Vocational Education.
This means that not every curricular area will be assessed through the Class 10 board examination.
Three Subjects Removed From the 2026-27 Class IX Curriculum
CBSE has clarified that the following subjects will not be part of the curriculum for the specified batches:
| Subject | Applicable Class/Session |
| Individuals in Society | Class IX, 2026-27 |
| Modules on Computational Thinking (CT) and AI | Class IX, 2026-27 |
| Environmental Education | Class X, 2027-28 |
These subjects were added post the ongoing academic year which was causing confusion regarding the total number of subjects that were supposed to be studied by the students.
Now, CBSE has made it clear regarding the schedule for implementation of the subjects in order to enable the students to concentrate on the subjects that will be part of their board exams and also continue studying other subjects.
CBSE Class 10 Board Exam 2028: Vocational Education Remains Compulsory
Vocational Education will remain mandatory for students studying Class IX in 2026-27 and Class X in 2027-28.
To meet this criteria, students have two options: either to study Kaushal Vikas or any of the 22 Skill Subjects listed by CBSE in its circular.
Who Will Be Affected by the Revised CBSE Scheme?
The new Scheme of Studies would be applicable for those students who are pursuing their studies in Class IX for the academic year 2026-27 and will take up Class 10 board exams in 2028.
The old scheme of studies would remain unchanged for those students who are pursuing their studies in Class X in the academic year 2026-27.
