The National Testing Agency (NTA) will release the information brochure on JEE Main 2027 which will have details regarding examination cities among others. Candidates can refer to the previous year's information brochure in order to understand how the National Testing Agency mentions the cities in which the examination can be conducted.

It needs to be noted that the total number of cities for conducting JEE Main in a particular state does not represent the number of physical centers. NTA provides a list of cities within the state where the examination will be conducted provided there is a sufficient number of candidates for doing so. Therefore, the number of examination centers will vary from that of cities.

In JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Paper 1, 658 examination centers were reported in 326 cities. During the April session, the examination was held in about 566 centers spread over 304 cities.

Information brochure does not provide information about all the physical examination centers; it only mentions the list of cities where the examination can be conducted.

JEE Main 2027: Which State Has the Maximum Exam Cities?

On the basis of information provided in the last year’s information brochure, it was seen that a large number of examination cities were listed by Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu states. One of the reasons for this could be that these states have a relatively larger geographical spread; hence, they require more than one location for conducting examinations.

In contrast, only one entry was there for Delhi. However, this does not mean that only one examination centre exists in Delhi.

The basic difference is between examination cities and examination centres. It is possible that more than one examination centre may exist within one city depending upon the number of candidates, infrastructure, and other arrangements made by the NTA.

Thus, candidates must not take the number of cities as the number of physical examination centres.

JEE Main Exam Cities in Andhra Pradesh

Many cities have been selected by Andhra Pradesh for being considered as examination centers for JEE Main exam every year in the brochure. The cities include Anantapur, Bhimavaram, Guntur, Kakinada, Kurnool, Nellore, Tirupati, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam.

Having more centers makes it easier for all candidates in different parts of the state to reach the center easily. However, there might be differences in the number of centers.

JEE Main Exam Cities in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu had several examination cities listed in the information pamphlet for the previous year. Some of these cities included Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Salem, Trichy, Tirunelveli, and Vellore among others.

In line with the conventions in other states, the above-listed cities are not to be taken as the exact number of physical exam centers. Multiple centers could be set up in one city by NTA depending on the number of candidates and available facilities.

JEE Main Exam Cities in Maharashtra

Another state which is comprised of several cities, which have been approved for JEE Main examination city status, is Maharashtra. The above-listed cities include urban locations as well as other locations outside Mumbai and Pune.

It is recommended that candidates wait until the information brochure on JEE Main 2027 is published, as it will contain the final list of examination cities. The above-listed cities may not coincide with those allotted under NTA’s examination arrangement and candidate turnout.
