JEE Main 2027 PwD and PwBD Candidates: Certificate Rules and Exam Facilities

JEE Main 2027 PwD and PwBD Candidates: Certificate Rules and Exam Facilities

JEE Main 2027 PwD & PwBD Candidates: The NTA has provided guidelines regarding the disability certificates needed and the facilities for the candidates in the official JEE Main 2027 Information Bulletin. Facilities like scribes, compensatory time, and examination centre support will be available to candidates depending on their disability and the documents provided by them.

Additionally, a 5% quota is available for benchmark disabilities under the relevant category in the JEE Main 2027 Information Bulletin.

JEE Main 2027 PwD and PwBD Eligibility Rules

PwD and PwBD candidates may qualify for different examination facilities depending on their disability and difficulty in writing.

Category Eligibility and Facilities
PwBD (40% or more disability) Eligible for applicable reservation benefits; scribe and compensatory time subject to prescribed conditions
PwD (Less than 40% disability) May receive a scribe and compensatory time if difficulty in writing is certified under the applicable guidelines
Candidates eligible for a scribe May use an approved own scribe or request one from NTA

Having a disability certificate alone does not automatically make every candidate eligible for all examination facilities.

JEE Main 2027 Disability Certificate Requirements

Candidates claiming disability-related benefits must upload the applicable documents during the JEE Main 2027 application process.

Document File Format Size
Disability / UDID Certificate PDF 50 KB–300 KB
Certificate Regarding Physical Limitation to Write, if applicable PDF 50 KB–300 KB

Documents provided should be legible and should have been issued by the relevant authority.

NTA can authenticate information regarding UDID via the portal for disability identification. Those not having the UDID card should upload the requisite disability certificate in the prescribed format.

Which Certificate Is Required for Scribe Facilities?

JEE Main 2027 Brochure mentions specific certificate formats as follows:

  • Annexure I: For eligible candidates having benchmark disabilities needing a certificate to prove physical disabilities that affect handwriting.
  • Annexure II: For those with specified disabilities less than 40%, whose disabilities prevent them from writing and thus need the help of a scribe.
  • Annexure III: Declaration by the candidate appointing his/her own scribe.

JEE Main 2027 Scribe Facility for PwD and PwBD Candidates

Eligible candidates can either apply for a scribe through NTA or get their own scribe depending on the official guidelines.

A scribe will help the candidate read out the question or enter the answer depending on the instructions given. The scribe is not allowed to explain the question or suggest an answer.

Candidates who choose their own scribes should submit the necessary undertaking. The qualifications of the scribe should be one lower than those of the candidate.

Extra Time for PwD and PwBD Candidates in JEE Main 2027

Compensatory time is offered to those qualified applicants in the ratio of 20 minutes per hour of examination. If there is a three-hour examination, there will be an extra time of 60 minutes given.

Examination Duration Total Time With Compensatory Time
3 hours 4 hours
3 hours 30 minutes 4 hours 40 minutes

The provision that covers PwBDs regarding the use of a scribe can also give them compensatory time even if they do not use a scribe.

Those who have a disability level of less than 40% must satisfy the writing assistance certification requirement.

JEE Main 2027 PwBD Reservation and Application Fee

NTA provides 5% reservation for PwBD candidates within the General, GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC and ST categories.

The examination fee for eligible PwD/PwBD candidates appearing at centres in India is as follows:

Paper Selection Fee
Any one paper: B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch or B.Planning Rs 500
Two or three papers under the permitted combinations Rs 1,000

The fees shown are for one session. Processing charges and GST may apply. Candidates applying during the late registration window must pay an additional Rs 500.

JEE Main 2027 PwD and PwBD Application Correction Rules

The correction process for JEE Main 2027 Session 1 is set for the dates from November 27 to 29, 2026.

The candidates need to check their disability and certificate details while filling out the form. As per the notification,

  • The correction can only be made in the allowed fields by the NTA.
  • The verification mismatches of UDID have to be rectified within the correction period.
  • Any claims of PwD/PwBD status would not be considered once the correction period ends.

Those candidates who registered for Session 1 and then again apply for Session 2 with the same application number cannot change the PwD/PwBD status.

Examination Centre Facilities for PwD and PwBD Candidates

NTA has given guidelines for examination accommodations that include provision of scribes and extra time among others where required.

Eligible candidates can get help regarding seating arrangements and use of assistive devices from the relevant disability guidelines.

It is advised for the students to check their approved facilities along with the instructions stated on the admit cards. For more details, kindly log on to the website jeemain.nta.nic.in.
