JEE Main 2027 Category Certificate Rules: Candidates seeking admission through OBC-NCL, GEN-EWS, SC, or ST should mention the details of the quota they wish to apply to in the online form. NTA has already issued the reservation instructions category wise in the JEE Main 2027 Information Bulletin.

The candidate is advised to verify the details of the certificate for the category he/she wishes to apply to before filling up the application form, as this information would also be needed for JEE Advanced 2027.

JEE Main 2027 Category-Wise Reservation Rules

As per the official information bulletin, the following reservation percentages apply to eligible candidates.

These reservation provisions apply according to the relevant government rules. State government institutions may follow their respective state reservation policies.

JEE Main 2027 OBC-NCL Certificate Requirements

For a candidate to get admission under OBC-NCL quota, he/she needs to come from a community listed in the Central OBC List issued by the Government of India. Below are some requirements that students need to be aware of:

• The caste has to be listed in the relevant Central OBC List.
• Creamy layer of OBC candidates cannot get OBC-NCL reservation.
• Caste listed only in state OBC list doesn’t mean you are eligible for central quota.
• Valid OBC-NCL certificate is required in counselling procedure.

Students can view the Central OBC List via National Commission for Backward Classes on ncbc.nic.in.

JEE Main 2027 EWS Certificate Requirements

GEN-EWS quota offers reservation of 10% for eligible candidates falling under economically weaker sections of the General category.

For enjoying such an advantage, students have to fulfill the income and assets criteria laid down by the Government of India.

It is mandatory to have a valid EWS Income and Asset Certificate for admission validation.

Students need to verify the format and validity of the certificate for JoSAA 2027 counseling.

JEE Main 2027 SC and ST Certificate Requirements

A candidate from Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe shall be eligible for claiming reservation provided that his/her community is included in the list of Central Government concerned.

The certificate must be issued by the competent authority and should contain all relevant personal/community particulars.

While admission to the programme, candidates have to submit an original certificate of SC/ST category.

The category stated in the JEE Main application form should correspond with the supporting documents.

Is a Category Certificate Required During JEE Main 2027 Registration?

These documents have been mentioned in the JEE Main 2027 Information Bulletin and include photographs, signatures, Class 10 certificates and disability certificates wherever applicable.

OBC-NCL, GEN-EWS, SC and ST certificates do not appear as part of the common documents which should be uploaded by all applicants.

Nonetheless, those applying for reservations should mention their categories properly. Verification of the supporting certificates is done at the time of counselling and admissions.

Can Candidates Change Their Category in JEE Main 2027?

The correction window for the Session 1 Application form has been set from November 27 to 29, 2026.

Nevertheless, only certain categories would allow any corrections. Candidates should verify the correction notification from NTA regarding the possibility of making any corrections in their category.

Beyond that time period, any request for correction would have to abide by NTA restrictions.

Important Instructions for Reserved Category Candidates

Before filling the JEE Main 2027 application form, students must:

• Check if they are eligible for that particular reservation category.
• Check their name and other personal information from official sources.
• Check their eligibility for Central List in case of OBC NCL and SC/ST reservation category.
• Prepare their category certificate to verify their admission.
• Make themselves aware about the certificate format of JoSAA 2027 and its validity once published.
• Never provide wrong category information and document.

Students who cannot show the necessary certificates while verifying their admission might lose their reservation or seat allocation.
