NEET Marks vs Rank 2026: Check Score, Percentile and MBBS Admission Chances
NEET UG 2026 result of re-examination was announced on 16th July 2026. Around 20 lakh aspirants had appeared for the exam, out of which 11.21 lakh candidates have been declared qualified.
Now, qualified candidates are eagerly waiting for the start of the counselling procedure. In the counselling process, candidates will be able to choose their favorite medical courses and colleges as per their rank and category.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will declare the schedule of counselling for All India Quota seats while the state counselling authorities will declare admission procedure for the state quota seats.
According to state quota, around 85% of the seats in government medical colleges are reserved for candidates who meet eligibility criteria of that particular state while 15% All India Quota seats are available for candidates from all over the country.
NEET cut off marks for MBBS admission vary as per the candidate’s category, quota, college and counselling round. General category candidates require more marks than OBC, SC and ST candidates for getting admission in government medical colleges.

NEET UG 2026 Marks vs Percentile
The marks in NEET exam are those that a student scores in the test.
The percentile is the percentage of students that have scored up to or less than the score of a certain candidate. The percentile does not indicate the percentage of marks gained by a candidate.
For instance, when a candidate scores a percentile of 99, he performs better than 99% of the candidates who have taken part.

The marks-versus-rank range is indicative. The final rank depends on the number of candidates, examination difficulty, overall performance and tie-breaking rules.
NEET UG 2026 Government MBBS Cutoff
However, the marks required to get admitted to the Government MBBS College are always much higher than the minimum qualifying marks.
The cut-off marks for admission to the Government Colleges depend upon the category of the candidate, state, quota, preference of the college and round of counseling.
For general category students, marks of about 550 to 600 or above are needed to be competitive for getting admitted into the government colleges. But, the marks requirement for colleges that are quite popular might be much higher.
For the reserved category, admission can be secured by securing comparatively lesser marks.

These marks are only expected ranges. They don’t guarantee admission to a particular college.
Candidates should check the official round-wise closing ranks released by MCC and state counselling authorities.
NEET UG Category-Wise Cutoff Trends: 2024 to 2026
The NEET qualifying score changes every year. It depends on the question paper’s difficulty, candidate performance, highest score and percentile calculation.

The qualifying marks increased in 2026 across most categories compared with 2025.
For UR and EWS candidates, the minimum qualifying score increased from 144 marks in 2025 to 213 marks in 2026.
For OBC, SC and ST candidates, the lower cutoff increased from 113 marks to 177 marks.

Aryan Gupta from Punjab secured All India Rank 1. Panshul Bansal from Haryana secured AIR 2.
Both candidates obtained the highest score of 715 marks and recorded a percentile of 99.99990.

Aryan Gupta and Panshul Bansal scored the same marks. However, Aryan received AIR 1 and Panshul received AIR 2 after the prescribed tie-breaking rules were applied.
NEET 2026 MBBS Admission Chances
The probability of getting government MBBS seats increases with better ranks and high marks.
Getting more than 650 marks may lead to government colleges admission depending upon the category, state and quota.
The candidates with marks ranging from 550 to 650 can get an opportunity to get into government or private colleges depending upon their rank and counselling options.
The low scorers must take up the option of state quota seats, private colleges, deemed universities and other medical course admission possibilities.
Other factors that might impact admission include the following:
- Category of the candidate
- Eligibility criteria of domicile
- Choice of college priority list
- Availability of seats
- Number of counselling round
- Previous closing rank records
- Fees and bond applicable
What Should Be Done by the Candidates?
The candidates who have cleared NEET examination should download their scorecard of NEET UG 2026 and verify the All India Rank and the category rank.
They need to individually register themselves for MCC counselling and state counselling process.
They should create a realistic college choice list after considering the previous year closing ranks, fees, location, bond criteria and facilities available.
The choice filling must be done properly by the candidates in accordance with their preferences.
Only the official portals of MCC and State counselling can be considered for all the details including the registration date, seat matrix, allotment result and reporting time.
Aryan Gupta and Panshul Bansal jointly got first rank with 715 marks from Punjab and Haryana respectively. But as per the tie-breaker policy, Aryan has been allotted rank 1 whereas Panshul has got 2nd rank.
