CBSE Class 10 Board Exams 2028: Subject Structure Updated, Check New Changes

CBSE Class 10 Board Exams 2028: Subject Structure Updated, Check New Changes

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has changed the Scheme of Studies of the students who would appear for their Class 10 board examination in 2028. According to the revised Scheme of Studies, the following subjects would not be a part of the studies of the concerned batches: Individuals in Society; Modules on Computational Thinking (CT) and AI; Environmental Education.

This revision is applicable to those students who are in Class IX in the academic year 2026-27 and going up to Class X in 2027-28. They will appear for the CBSE Class 10 Board Examinations 2028.

CBSE has provided a clear understanding of the subject pattern so that there should not be any confusion regarding the number of subjects they have to study and appear for in the board examination.

CBSE Class 10 Board Exams 2028: Which Subjects Will Be for Board Exams?

Under the revised scheme, students will have five compulsory board examination subjects:

  • Two languages
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Science

Students will continue to study additional curricular areas, but these won't form part of the five board examination subjects listed above.

Which Subjects Are Removed From the 2028 Curriculum?

CBSE has clarified that the following subjects won't be part of the curriculum for the relevant batches:

Subject Applicable Class and Session
Individuals in Society Class IX, 2026-27
Modules on Computational Thinking (CT) and AI Class IX, 2026-27
Environmental Education Class X, 2027-28

According to the CBSE circular, the decision has been taken to align these curricular areas with their implementation schedule.

CBSE Class 9 and 10 Subject Structure 2026-27 and 2027-28

While the students will take up five subjects for the board exams, they will be required to study nine compulsory curricular subjects as per the program.

The five board exam subjects and subjects like third language, Art Education, Physical Education and Well-being, and Vocational Education form a part of these nine compulsory subjects.

This shows that the students will still get to learn in various fields even if the board examinations will be conducted in the specified subjects alone.

Vocational Education Remains Compulsory

According to the CBSE, Vocational Education is an essential course for Class IX students in 2026-27, which will be upgraded to Class X in 2027-28.

For achieving this goal, students can opt for Kaushal Vikas or any other skill subject from among the 22 skill subjects notified by the CBSE.

Who Will Be Affected by the CBSE Scheme Change?

The new scheme shall be implemented for those students who are enrolled in Class IX in the 2026-27 academic year and are promoted to Class X in 2027-28.

Those students who are enrolled in Class X in the 2026-27 academic year shall follow the current scheme of studies.

It is the responsibility of the students and schools to follow the latest scheme of studies of CBSE.
