Lowest NEET Rank for Government MBBS Admission: State-wise Cutoff Trends
Every year, lakhs of students have been posing one question after their exam results: What is the minimum rank required to get into an AIIMS MBBS seat?

Registration for Round 1 of All India Quota counseling was started by MCC on August 5, 2026. If you are reading this while having your scorecard in your hand, time is ticking for you.
NEET UG 2026 Counselling has Started

Lowest NEET Rank: The Quick Picture
Here are 2 actions you should take this week based on your ranking:
Sign up even if Round 1 seems unattainable. Registration is compulsory for the 2026 cycle even if you were registered last year. Also, the majority of the 20,000+ closing ranks occur in later rounds. You will not be able to join these rounds if you are outside the system.
List down the low-cutoff colleges. They are all shown in the tables below. If you don’t list a college, it won't be allotted to you, regardless of how low it closes.
| Parameter | Details |
|---|---|
| Exam body | NTA |
| Counselling | MCC (15% AIQ) + state authorities (85% state quota) |
| Qualifying percentile | 50th (General), 40th (SC/ST/OBC) |
| Lowest AIQ MBBS closing rank | Roughly 20,000 to 25,000, varies by state |
| Courses covered | MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS |
Here is one correction that you have to remember: these are AIQ quota closing. The state quota cutoff is calculated based on different merit list and closes later, particularly in your native state.
Government MBBS Colleges with the Lowest Closing Ranks
This trend is evident from the facts above. Almost all low closing colleges are in the Northeast. Fewer applicants prefer these locations, so ranks stretch further.
| College | State | Closing rank (NEET 2025, approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| Nagaland Institute of Medical Science and Research, Kohima | Nagaland | 21,190 |
| Nalbari Medical College | Assam | 20,989 |
| Zoram Medical College, Falkawn | Mizoram | 20,924 |
| Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital | Assam | 20,728 |
| Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital | Assam | 20,679 |
Hence, if you have an AIQ rank below 21,000 and are willing to be flexible on the location of the college, then government MBBS seat is still within your reach. This flexibility is the whole deal. 5 years in Kohima versus Rs 60 lakh+ for private college.
What about BDS?
However, dental seats close after MBBS, hence BDS becomes the alternative for those who have ranks between 36,000 to 38,000.
| College | State | Closing rank (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| Government Dental College, Dibrugarh | Assam | 38,223 |
| Government Dental College, Raipur | Chhattisgarh | 37,526 |
| Government Dental College, Kadapa | Andhra Pradesh | 37,200 |
| Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Dental Sciences, Imphal | Manipur | 36,801 |
| Government Dental College, Silchar | Assam | 36,421 |
BAMS and BHMS: The Longer Runway
In case you had a rank that was above 80,000, AYUSH course keeps your doctor dreams alive.
BAMS closes in the range of 81,000 to 85,000. Most of these seats lie in Maharashtra and Karnataka, like Amrav
| College | State | Closing rank (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| Shri Gurudeo Ayurved College, Amravati | Maharashtra | 84,900 |
| Dayabhai Maoji Majithiya Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Yavatmal | Maharashtra | 83,614 |
| Vidarbha Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Amravati | Maharashtra | 82,380 |
| DGM Ayurvedic Medical College, Gadag | Karnataka | 82,135 |
| S C Mutha Aryangla Vaidyak Mahavidyalaya, Satara | Maharashtra | 81,725 |
BHMS has the maximum stretch and ends around 1.30 to 1.43 lakh.
| College | State | Closing rank (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| Dr VH Dave Homoeopathic Medical College, Anand | Gujarat | 1,42,903 |
| Gujarat Homoeopathic Medical College, Baroda | Gujarat | 1,38,705 |
| Sree Vidhyadhiraja Homoeopathic Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram | Kerala | 1,37,509 |
| Orissa Medical College of Homoeopathy, Sambalpur | Odisha | 1,31,983 |
| JSPS Government Homoeopathic Medical College, Hyderabad | Telangana | 1,30,432 |
Here is how the ladder looks like in terms of practicalities: MBBS up to about 21,000, BDS up to about 38,000, BAMS up to about 85,000, and BHMS up to about 1.43 lakh.
Marks vs Rank: Where does your Score Land?
The cutoff ranks become meaningless until you convert your marks. The approximate mapping for 2025.
| Marks | Approx. rank |
|---|---|
| 650 | 77 |
| 601 to 607 | 981 to 1,302 |
| 549 to 569 | 5,603 to 12,860 |
| 528 to 540 | 17,370 to 25,541 |
| 481 to 515 | 36,843 to 76,510 |
| 402 to 435 | 1.46 to 2.06 lakh |
| 302 to 398 | 2.13 to 4.36 lakh |
The line to be remembered is between 528 and 540 for the cutoffs that happened last year in 2025, for the government MBBS colleges. This is your practical target in case of government seats.
How Admission Actually Works
1. Eligibility Criteria. You must be 17 years old on or before December 31 in the year of your admission. Have 10+2 in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. At least 50% in PCB (40% for SC/ST/OBC).
2. Pass NEET. NTA decides the qualifying percentile based on the result every year. Qualifying only makes you eligible for counseling.
3. Counseling Process. MCC conducts AIQ counseling for 15% of the seats in 4 rounds this year – AIQ Round 1, 2, 3, and stray vacancy. The states conduct their rounds for the remaining 85%. Apply for both rounds. Not applying for the state round is the biggest (and costliest) mistake made by low rank candidates.
FAQs

Finally one thing to remember honestly while ending on: cutoffs change every year. Rank 21,000 may be rank 18,000 or 24,000 in next year. Use these figures to make choice list. Use official MCC data to make decision.
