The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released city-specific and center-wise results for the NEET UG 2024 exam. Nearly 24 lakh candidates took the exam across the country, with the results declared on June 4, ten days ahead of schedule. This early release has raised concerns among stakeholders about the high number of top scorers nationwide, leading to questions about the exam's integrity and multiple legal petitions, including hearings in the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court Involvement
The Supreme Court mandated the NTA to publish the exam results on a center-by-center basis by July 20. Over 23 lakh students competed for more than 1 lakh MBBS seats. Due to concerns about the NEET-UG question paper leak in Bihar, the Chief Justice of India directed the NTA not to reveal candidate names in the published results.
NEET UG Scoring Trends
This year, over 81,000 candidates scored 600 and above out of 720 marks, representing 3.49% of the total. In comparison, 2023 saw 29,351 candidates (1.43%) achieve this score, and 2022 had 21,164 candidates (1.19%). The latest results show that more than 100 of the 4,750 test centers had over three times the average number of high-scoring candidates.
High Scores Concentrated in Rajasthan
A significant concentration of high scores was noted in Rajasthan, particularly in Sikar (44 centers) and Kota (16 centers), known coaching hubs. In Sikar, 24 centers had at least five times the national average of candidates scoring above 600 marks. Over 2,000 candidates from Sikar scored more than 650 marks. Sikar's top-1000 rank holders increased from 27 in 2023 to 55 this year, while Kota's top rank holders rose from 13 to 35.
Disparities in Haryana
Result data highlighted disparities across centers in Haryana. In Rohtak's Model School center, 734 candidates performed notably well, with one scoring 700, 14 scoring 650 and above, and 30 scoring between 600 and 649.
Impressive Performance in Rajkot
Rajkot in Gujarat also reported impressive results. At the Unit-1 School of Engineering center, over 250 of the 1,968 candidates scored 600 and above, with 12 scoring 700 or more and one achieving a perfect score of 720.
Petitioners have raised concerns that the NTA has not fully complied with the Supreme Court's order to upload city and centre-wise results on its website. According to reports, students involved in the petition Tanmaya Sharma and Others vs NTA have written to the Union Education Minister and NTA DG Pradeep Singh Kharola, arguing that the order dated July 18 was not followed in letter and spirit. They contended that the NTA's omission of student roll numbers in the uploaded details obstructs public access to information and hampers the ability to assist the Supreme Court in making a decision.
