NEET UG Counselling 2026 Choice Filling and Choice Locking Process
Choice filling and choice locking are two important processes involved in the NEET UG counseling process. At this stage, students will have to choose the courses and colleges where they would like to get admission.
A number of choices can be entered based on the candidate’s eligibility and choice. The choices have to be arranged in proper order before they enter them.
The most desired college and course should come first, and then other choices should be added in decreasing order of preference.
Before entering the choices, candidates need to verify some important things like the location of the college, course, fees, availability of seats, and previous allocation of the college.
They can enter, delete, or change the order of their choices as long as the choice filling process is going on.
After verifying all the choices, the candidate will have to lock his/her choices before the deadline. They also need to print or download the list of locked choices.
If a candidate does not lock the choices manually, then he/she can be locked automatically as per the MCC guidelines.
NEET UG 2026 Seat Allotment Process
The NEET UG 2026 seat allotment will start once the choice filling and choice locking phase comes to an end.
MCC will allocate seats for the candidates depending upon various considerations like the NEET UG 2026 score of the applicant, category, reservation, choices filled and seats available.
The sequence in which the choices have been filled by the candidates will have an important impact on the seat allocation process. Hence, students need to fill up their choices very carefully and considerately.
Once the seat allotment result is announced, the candidates can visit the official website of MCC counseling process and login through their credentials.
In addition, the candidates may also need to go through the OTP verification process prior to knowing their seat allotment result.
Candidates who get a seat can download the provisional allotment letter from the official website of MCC.
What to Do After NEET UG Seat Allotment
Students allotted a seat are supposed to follow the guidelines provided in their provisional allotment letter.
These include submission of the necessary documents for the purpose of verification. Students are also expected to visit the allotted college within the provided dates.
While reporting to the college, students are expected to provide original documents, passport-sized photographs, certificates and the allotment letter.
Students are also expected to do the document verification process, payment of admission fee, and meet other conditions as required by the colleges.
The date for reporting varies from one counselling round to another. Students who do not report during the stipulated period lose the allotted seat.
Students who wish to change to a better college or course in the next counselling round have the option of choosing the upgrading option if it is available under MCC guidelines.
Students need to keep checking the website mcc.nic.in for dates of registration, choice filling, allotment results and reporting information.
