NEET UG Counselling 2026: Online Document Verification and One-Time Reporting

NEET UG Counselling 2026 by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will begin soon. The Union Health Ministry conducted a review of the preparations in terms of readiness of the system for MBBS, BDS and BSc Nursing admissions through All India Quota (AIQ). Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda headed the review. In a press release, Nadda instructed the officials to ensure that the counseling process would be transparent, merit-based, technologically driven and candidate friendly.

As per the Health Ministry, the review was done to assess the preparedness of the MCC, DGHS and other stakeholders in the counselling process. The officials were given an overview of the counseling schedule, IT infrastructure and cyber security. Moreover, grievance redressal process, candidate facilitation and coordination with participating institutions were also covered in the review.

In the meeting, Nadda asked the officials to provide robust technological support and grievance redressal on time. Furthermore, Nadda directed that the counseling portal must remain online throughout the admission process. Also, the authorities must take corrective actions at the earliest on the issue faced by the candidates.

What's New: Online Document Verification and One-Time Physical Reporting

According to the ministry, a number of technology-based reforms have been introduced this year. The most important reform among them is the one-time physical reporting process.

This is how it will work. Candidates will choose between Freeze and Float after the seat allotment process.

  • Freeze: Candidates will be required to make their physical presence at the allotted institute for document verification and payment of fees.
  • Float: Candidates can undertake document verification online and remain eligible for seat upgradation in subsequent rounds. Physical presence will be required only in the third round, provided that the candidate has a seat.

The counselling procedure will also include online document verification, online resignation and candidate data pre-filled by NTA. The seat matrix will be verified by NMC and the participating institutes.

Better Support for PwBD Candidates

There have been efforts by the ministry to increase accessibilities to PwBD. There has been an increase in the number of centers for conducting disability assessment from 16 to 61. The newly established Appellate Disability Assessment Board gives the candidate the right to appeal against disability assessment.

NRI Admissions Move Fully Online

One other major change is that the entire admission process through the NRI category would be done using digital means only. All registrations and documentation would now be done completely online via the MCC counseling portal.

Cybersecurity Checks and Staff Training

According to the Ministry of Health, the exercise involved cybersecurity preparedness as well. Disability assessment boards, college nodal officers, and document verification officers have also undergone training.

Help for Candidates During Counselling

The MCC has also launched a 24×7 helpline number, 1800-102-7637, along with a specialized e-mail grievance system to facilitate the students. Also, the counseling process would have bilingual information materials, FAQs, and video tutorials.

NTA has released the NEET UG 2026 result on July 16th. According to the health ministry, the counseling for All India Quota MBBS, BDS, and BSc (Hons) Nursing seats is about to start soon.
