NEET UG Counselling 2026: Revised PwBD Guidelines Released, No Schedule Change

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released an addendum containing new guidelines for conducting the PwBD Candidates Assessment before NEET UG Counselling 2026. These new guidelines amend certain aspects of the disability assessment guidelines issued on July 27, 2026. The addendum aligns the disability assessment framework with the directions issued by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, a department under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

The guidelines include disability certification and assessment procedure. The designated disability assessment boards will have to adhere to these guidelines at the time of counseling. The purpose of these guidelines is clear – all PwBD candidates are to be assessed equally, irrespective of the board conducting the evaluation.

The clarification follows reports published in the media, which stated that there was a notice on the MCC website regarding the postponement of Round 1 choice filling. The notice does not exist at the moment on the official portal. No such decision has been taken by MCC, as of now. As of now, everything remains the same.

Meanwhile, MCC has issued an advisory to OCI & NRI candidates applying for the NRI Quota. These candidates are first required to undergo the document verification process through MCC's NRI Document Verification Team in order to confirm their eligibility.

After verification, only then the candidates can see both NRI quota and unreserved (UR) seats during choice filling. MCC has instructed OCI & NRI candidates to mark "Yes" against the "Whether you want to apply for NRI Quota seats" option while registering. It is advisable for the candidates to undergo verification in advance.

There are some major changes for the candidates in the NEET UG counselling 2026. The most important change is that those candidates who opt for seat upgradation in further rounds do not need to physically report themselves at the allotted college after Round 1. Thereby, unnecessary travel and documentation is avoided. Moreover, the seat resignation process has been brought online through the NEET UG counseling portal.
