Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah, part of the two-judge bench, told the NTA counsel, "It's not so simple that because you have done it, it's sacrosanct. We need answers for that. The sanctity has been affected. So we need answers."

These remarks came as many NEET aspirants protested nationwide, alleging paper leaks and other irregularities in this year's NEET results. Concerns about a paper leak and the alleged irregular awarding of grace marks to about 1,500 students were voiced by prominent political leaders and the Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra state governments.

NEET UG 2024 Counselling to Continue

Justice Vikram Nath, heading the bench, refused to halt the counselling process and connected the petition with another one scheduled for hearing on July 8, overseen by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud. "We'll allow the counselling to proceed. There will be no stay on the counselling," Justice Nath stated in response to Senior Advocate Mathews J Nedumpara's plea to halt the counselling.

Media reports suggest that students who received grace marks might have the option to accept their raw scores or take a retest. A four-member panel, headed by a former UPSC Chairman, is expected to submit its report soon.

NTA Clarifies Transparency in the NEET UG 2024 Evaluation Process

The inflation of marks for 1,543 students from six centers, who lost time during exams, resulted in an unprecedented 67 candidates receiving a perfect score of 720 out of 720. The controversy deepened as six toppers came from the same center in Haryana's Jhajjar. The NTA denied any irregularities, claiming the grace marks will be reviewed by a four-member panel formed by the Centre.

The NTA emphasized the transparency of the NEET UG 2024 evaluation process. They stated that NEET UG results were declared promptly after necessary checks post the Answer Key challenge period, within 30 days for approximately 23 lakh candidates. JEE Main 2024 Session-1 results were declared in 11 days, and combined results for Sessions 1 and 2 in 15 days.

The NTA outlined their procedure for maintaining transparency across all examinations, including sharing necessary information with candidates, displaying scanned OMRs, inviting objections to Provisional Answer Keys, publishing Final Answer Keys, and sending scanned OMR Answer Sheets and Score Cards via email.

How NTA Dealt with NEET UG 2024 UFM Cases

Regarding Unfair Means (UFM) cases, the NTA stated that actions were taken per existing rules, including the cancellation of candidature and debarment from future NTA exams. Cases had been registered against impersonators, with some being handled by the State Police. While the outcomes of these investigations are awaited, the NTA categorically denied any case of a paper leak and reiterated that the integrity of the examination was not compromised.
