The National Testing Agency (NTA) has formed a committee to address the controversy surrounding the high number of NEET UG 2024 candidates who achieved perfect scores — 67 students scored 720/720. The committee, led by a former UPSC chairman, is expected to deliver its verdict today.
In its initial meetings, the four-member committee discussed two options: offering all 1,563 affected candidates a retest or allowing them to accept their "non-normalised score" — the score achieved before grace marks were added, according to The Indian Express. The government has not disclosed the full composition of the committee.
The NEET UG 2024 results, released on June 4, have sparked concerns about the marking scheme. A group of students has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court, questioning the integrity of the examination due to allegations of a paper leak. They have urged the court to cancel the exam and instruct the NTA to conduct it again.
Approximately 24 lakh candidates took the NEET UG 2024 exam on May 5, held in 571 cities, including 14 cities outside India. Currently, there are 1,08,940 MBBS seats available in over 700 medical colleges across the country.
