The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released a list of 22 fake universities operating across the country that were misleading students by claiming to be legitimate universities without obtaining recognition.
The UGC clarified that these institutions are not authorized to confer degrees under the UGC Act, 1956. Degrees obtained from such institutions will be considered academically and professionally invalid.
In a recent case, the Institute of Management and Engineering, Kotla Mubarakpur, Delhi, has also been declared fake. According to the UGC, this institute was neither established under any central or state act nor recognized under Section 2(f) or Section 3 of the UGC Act. Therefore, engineering degrees awarded from this institute are not valid.
